Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to the black swan on a regular basis for many years. Over the past few months, saying it has gone down hill would be an understatement. This review details our experience tonight (Saturday 13th January). On arriving, dirty glasses piled up on...the bar and numerous tables yet the venue was not busy. Poor service at the bar. Inconsistent pricing. The same round of drinks was charged at 3 different amounts and then the final round, changing an alcoholic drink to an “on tap” soft drink cost more than all the previous rounds. There was also no ice available. There are many other pubs available in the local area that could easily take the business if this place was to close.More

As a local that’s been coming 7 years I’m so disappointed in the new management with the ques on drinks / food And general locals feed back The new manager has brought down the whole atmosphere in his rudeness And is a shame when we...have had such a local social in your pub A smile and manners would go a long way Not to mention the way I’ve seen him treat his staffMore

Went with a friend for lunch and ordered a medium rare steak. When it arrived it was probably more rare or blue then it was medium rare but I didn’t complain as I normally like any steak and didn’t want to kick up a fuss....By the next night I had food poisoning with major stomach cramps and sickness. It certainly wasn’t from any other foods I had eaten due to the types of food I had before and after this. I had heard a few rumours food isn’t always stored properly and it’s not the cleanest of kitchens so I guess that answers why. It seems other reviews had complained about the food as well so something isn't right there. I had even spoken to a few people I know who said "the less said about there the better". Certainly won’t be going back. Front of house staff polite though.More

Appalling service with first course not arriving for nearly one and a half hours after arriving. Won’t be back and much better local pubs available

A family lunch: getting elderly relatives and cousins together. This was a convenient place to meet up. This a big pub and, although it wasn’t crowded on a Thursday lunchtime, the staff were run off their feet. The chap serving us was very busy but,...even so, he did his utmost to make sure we got what we needed quickly. He was courteous, cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. He gets 5 stars! The food was good - I had a rather nice fish burger with mushy peas inside (good idea), others had curry, pie, sausage and mash and so on. My wife pinched her dad’s savoy cabbage and pea mixture from under his pie, which she enjoyed a lot. Good pub food, very reasonably priced.More

Held my retirement function for 40 people here June 30th. The staff could not be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff coped with my rowdy lot. Food was really good and many of my colleagues commented on it. Would highly recommend...if you needed somewhere that's really easy to get to as being just off A23.More

Poor service. Didn’t have anyone check if everything was ok. No cobb for the fish finger cobb. No apology. Just gave us white bread and left us. Meant to have tomato with it but was given beetroot. I don’t go into a shoe shop to...buy trainers and come out with boots! Quite disappointing. Won’t go again. .More

I wish I had read these reviews before going! I usually go to a different Hall&Woodhouse pub and have had the fish finger cobb before which I've enjoyed. We ordered two and they came in white bread as a sandwich. Plonked down with nothing said...about it not being in Cobbs. The bread wasn't particularly fresh and I left half of it. Nobody checked on us despite sitting for an hour or so chatting. Eventually I went to the bar and paid. The bill actually said Fish finger cobb so I mentioned that we had been given sliced bread! Then I was told they had run out of cobbs. I told the member of staff that it wasn't very nice. Paid and left. I can't say that anyone was rude. They just did not show true customer service. This pub used to be a delight to eat at but sadly not any more. @Hall&Woodhouse, no need to ask me to contact you directly because I'm not interested in you telling me you will train your staff. I don't care!More

Dogs are allowed in the pub but not in the restaurant. There is even a bowl of water outside by the front door for dogs.
