Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We've been to this pub a few times in the past and decided to visit again for lunch. The food used to be excellent but I'm afraid it's just average now. The service wasn't great. Our wine glasses weren't very clean, mine had lipstick marks...on the rim. Had to eventually ask if they could take our order as we'd been forgotten about. Food turned up, no cutlery. Wasn't offered any condiments either. It's also VERY expensive now. Was never cheap but the quality was worth paying the extra for. Plus they now add a 10% discretionary service charge! Was not worth nearly £100 for Sunday roast for 2 people. Won't be returning.More

Havent been here in ages however friend booked it so went along. Wow this place is expensive and not worth the money. Food was medicore. We ordered the camembert to share at £13.95 when it came out it was a small one not a sharing...one and we wasnt given plates!!! a portion of chips at £5.95 The belly of pork was tasteless and came out with sprouts - I ike sprouts but not many people dont just seemed random. Overall we all said we would not return one of the waiters was so miserable that we refused to pay the service charge that they added to the bill.More

We ordered the Fish Pie, one of the ‘specials’. What arrived looked OK apart from the strange side of whole carrots and nearly cooked sprouts. The challenge was to find the fish amongst the mass of potato and cheese. Eventually I did find a small...amount including one prawn. The taste could only be described as ‘bland’ - probably due to all those potatoes. All this for £18.95! Plus two glasses of Chardonnay for only £19. The venue itself is stunning but the Fish Pie and exhorbitant prices seriously let it down.More

Staff very accommodating especially as we arrived late. Food generally good and the lamb shank was top notch. A discretionary service charge will be added that is not advertised on the menus.

Lovely friendly attentive staff, warm pub ambience, overpriced average food very well presented. Basically £20 main,£10 desert including gratuity. Didn't try the light bites so unable to comment. Basically enjoyed our visit, however probably wouldn't revisit the main meal menu if we return

Great evening in the bar area we had reserved. Three of us had the fresh cooked Fish and chips from the new menu and it was delicious and plentiful. My husband had a burger and even thought was tasty it didn't look value for money...but he enjoyed it. Hopefully we will return to try something else on the menuMore

Hadn’t been here for years due to the abrupt manner of and lack of customer service from the landlady. The food however was very good with emphasis on fresh fish. Returning this month the pub was looking tired and the blackboard of specials and Sunday...roasts messy and tatty. We were welcomed by young friendly staff and advised of items not available-this sadly included two of the three white wines available by the glass. We were advised that the wine list contained some “inaccuracies “ which turned out to be the prices! We were told there had been no time to change the prices( the place was virtually empty at that time alone) . We told the waiter he had to charge us the price listed to which he replied “ I can’t do that I’m afraid”. The increase was not much but it was the principle. We did buy a couple of glasses ( as we were celebrating different bits of news) but the “ discretionary service charge “ was not added and we simply rounded up the cost as we felt it was not the waiter’s doing. If he is the owner he has committed a criminal offence. The food was mixed in quality but I will certainly not be returning for obvious reasons.More

Went to the Cock Inn at 13:00hrs with my wife for lunch. We were shown to our table and our drinks orders were taken while we looked over the lunch and main food menus. After a short while our drinks were brought across and we...were asked if we were ready to order our food , the member of staff forewarned us that we may have a minimum wait of 30 minutes. We noted what he told us and placed our orders. During our wait the staff member checked we were ok , asked if we wanted further drinks and apologised again for the delay. When our lunch arrived it was worth the wait and as we were in no rush. The wait gave us the opportunity to relax , chat and just enjoy doing nothing while waiting for lunch. I would definitely return on the basis of this visit and the member of staff who represented the Cock Inn did the business proud. He really knew his job and hit the perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive or annoying. (We’ve all had the experience of being asked “Is everything ok?” Every five minutes). In conclusion , if you want to take an afternoon to not be rushed and have great food your search is over 👍🏻More
