We have been coming to the red lion for the last 3 years and have always found it first class for everything. However last week we thought the service and food had slipped slightly. We did comment to one of the regular staff who was very apologetic and spoke with Simon the land lord who came straight over to apologise and explain the head chef was off, and gave us 10% off our bill which I thought was extremely kind. We have returned this week and it is very apparent the issues have been addressed. The service was prompt with efficient and attentive staff and when Simon (land lord) spotted us he gave us our order on the house!! Wow!! We were always going to return to the red lion but we will even more so now, massive thanks to you and your amazing team.

Called here for a late lunch and made to feel very welcome by the landlady. The food was excellent , best quality ingredients and piping hot, and all at a very reasonable price . Great pint -- will definitely dine here again .

The Red Lion are providing a great delivery service to local residents during lockdown. Generous portions and excellent quality at a good price. I’ve ordered two lots of meals for my elderly parents and they can’t praise the food highly enough. My Mum has an allergy and they’ve helped with menu choice to accommodate this. Will certainly be ordering again and visiting once they are able to open again.

Called here for lunch after checking with their website that they served food. When we arrived we asked if they were serving food and were told yes. What we were not told was that, despite their website saying they serve the main menu all day, they don't. They were just serving light bites. I decided on the special hot roast pork ciabatta from the board on the bar but was told they didn't actually have that or the beef one. Why have the boards on the bar if you are not serving them !!! We shared a bowel of their "Notorious Nachos" not sure why they have that title - it was a bowl of cheap supermarket nachos with cheese and chilli on top. They didn't even bother to layer the cheese & nachos so once you had eaten the top ones the rest was just plain, bland nachos. My husband chose the fish and chips and said the fish was nicely cooked and the batter crispy but it was half a piece of fish - so small. I chose a chicken wrap and was amazed that the chef let it leave the kitchen the wrap was so stale it was hard. The best part of the meal was the chips which were proper homemade chunky chips.

Had 5 Sunday roast meals over the last 5 Sundays and will not be ordering again, first 3 weeks were great, lovely roast dinner, nice meat and fresh veg, great portion size. Last week the portion size was not so great so put it as a one off... This week... Well it was a waste of money I'm sad to say... The quality has deteriorated! Sliced beef like out of a packet, all veg was frozen and barely an of it! 1 shrivelled piece of small broccoli, spoonful of peas and sweetcorn frozen mix, frozen carrots which were awful and I personally had 6 batons, 3 frozen sprouts. 2 tiny boiled potatoes. The 2 roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were the best bit!! They have lost my custom I'm afraid as that really isn't up to standard when you're paying almost £18 for 2 roast dinners. Thanks for the last few weeks.

Came for a family meal and as there was 10 of us we had to order our food a week before which I don’t like to do because I like to be able to discuss options with the staff but I appreciate why they asked for this to make sure they don’t run out of anything. I have to say that although there was an extensive menu there wasn’t much to suit my taste, I don’t eat red meat and most of the chicken dishes were curry based, anyway I went with the salt & pepper chicken which on the main menu came with chips & rice so I opted for the starter version which didn’t and I also chose the halloumi Greek salad with it. I couldn’t eat the chicken it was far too salty! The menu says that it’s marinated in garlic, soy & chilli well I think they went overboard with the soy! And the Greek salad consisted of just mixed green leaves and olives. I had some of my son’s chicken burger which wasn’t a burger but a dry over cooked chicken breast. The waiting on staff never asked how our meals were so weren’t given the opportunity to say how disappointed we were with the food. Needless to say we won’t be going back.

Visited for the first time, Restaurant is more like a canteen layout with two sets of doors open through out making it cold,no good for social distancing as i was rubbing backs with the next table. Food was hot but definitely not plentiful, and not great value for money. Drinks were expensive, staff decided to serve guests that came after ourselves first and the telephone was constantly ringing during our meal, ran out of certain puddings and drinks so poor meal experience.

A weekend to forget. I am regretfully writing this review as I have only heard good things from The Red Lion, however I am so appalled at the service and food I feel I would not be able to sleep without sharing this information. Upon entering The Red Lion the first thing I noticed was it had been refurbished to a good standard and I was excited for my meal. We were greeted by a polite young lady who I assumed to be the manager, she informed us that the table would not be ready for 20 minutes after our booking time. No problem. After being seated we waited 40 minutes to be served our starters which were underwhelming in size but ok in taste. Time goes by, more and more. Eventually we asked what how long the main meal would be, 'just out in a few minutes' was the answer. A hour and a half later the mains come out, high reviews for the fish a chips if there was a section for that, however the beef meals that cost over £15 could not be cut with the knives provided, or a chainsaw if I had one to hand. Deserts came promptly after. Again the worst experience about the whole thing is we had no cutlery through the meal, we had to take them from other set tables as every time we asked, they would say it would be straight out, plates from the starters and main remained on the table the whole time clogging up the table, even after requesting staff to remove them. Again we were fobbed off. I can deal with a average meal, but I do not want to eat my cheesecake with one elbow in my pate starter and the other in my gravy plate. Overall a really bad service, the meals would pass, however a budget Toby Carvery would have been on par and would advise for price and service.

If I could give you a score of 6 I would, amazing Sunday roasts 3 times during lockdown, huge Yorkshire puddings, loads of meat and veg. They even managed to provide lemon tarts for pudding as allergic to cheesecake . Thank you so much, you've become a new favourite.

There were 12 of us out to celebrate a 70th Birthday. On Wednesday a call was made to give our menu choices and change the time from 7.30 to 7pm. Our starters didn’t arrive until 8.20. When we queried how long it took we were told the booking was 7.30 and the lady serving argued the fact that it was ever changed. When my burger arrived it had cheese on, I cannot eat cheese and so informed the waitress that it wasn’t suitable. She replied, it’s served with cheese! There is no mention of cheese on the menu and after pointing this out, she finally replaced it. Another person sent her Lasagne back because it was watery. We cancelled the desserts as it was getting late. We told the lady that was why we changed the time as we were due somewhere else after, but she continued to argue that a call had ever been made. Her customer service wasn’t the best. I won’t be returning

We approached the Red Lion as a venue for a wake. Staff were very positive and we booked restaurant straight away. They had 4 menus at different prices and you could mix and match. This afternoon we went lovely surroundings hot drinks available straight away. Food was brought out on time buffet with hot and cold food. We booked for 40 but nearly 50 people attended the wake. Lots of excellent food with hardly any waste. Dan and staff were excellent, thankyou

This was a great evening. Big airy room, attentive staff and excellent food. As a family we enjoyed various main meals and starters followed by a couple of desserts, one of which was the delicious Berry Trifle . Looking forward to another visit.

Despite a previous poor experience of Sunday Lunch here, we decided to give it another go. This time for a midweek dinner. Their website has - WEEKDAY SPECIALS ~ Treat Yourself to a special dinner for just £9.95! Available Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 5-9 pm. Except it’s not. We booked for 6pm on a Wednesday, ordered drinks, then asked for the weekday specials only to be told they’re not available. No apology, no explanation. We had no choice but to order from the main menu, which was significantly more expensive. The food was fine but why pull in customers through your website if you don’t provide the offer. So second time here was another disappointment

Please be aware, As a group we booked in advance for nine people and pre ordered from the Christmas Menu 3 courses for £24.95 . Several people ordered two courses …. Remember we pre ordered…… When we came to pay we all had to pay £24.95 however many courses we had. This was not made clear in any communication. I have not come across this situation before. We felt seriously taken advantage of, no Manager available to deal with our issues .. just pay up. Our food was good and pleasant surroundings but I personally will not be going to eat there again, and my friends feel the same.

Having told the waitress firstly that I was gluten intolerant I ordered soup which was served withGF bread. No problem, it was nice. I then ordered a main that had the GFA symbol next to it. They brought me ordinary pasta with garlic bread on top, I enquired if it was GF and had it removed. The waitress came back to say although it says GF on the menu it’s not so I had to order an alternative, meanwhile my husband had nearly finished his main. The alternative was not brilliant. A shame as we won’t be back and it’s not far from home although we’d not been before.
