Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staying at the nearby CMHC site in our caravan along with our Border Collie, we decided to have a meal out for a change. My wife booked a table online. We arrived early but our table in the bar was already reserved and available, along...with a lovely friendly welcome and a real fire. We dined early so had the choice of the ‘early bird’ menu or ‘a la carte’, we chose early bird. I had Thai beef salad followed by sausage and mash, my wife had mackerel pate followed by coq au vin. It was all excellent, nicely presented and the portions were generous. The atmosphere was great and obvious locals were extremely friendly. All the staff were also very friendly and efficient. All in all a fantastic experience, thank you.More

Booked a table for a Wednesday evening meal. Service was excellent by friendly enthusiastic staff. Great real ale and wine. We were offered the early bird menu at £25 for 3 courses. It was great value but the quality of the food was wonderful. We...had an asian belly pork and black pudding salad, an asian beef salad, lamb pie, coq au Vin, raspberry creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding, all delicious.More

All I need to say is that this was the BEST Sunday dinner we’ve ever had. Excellent service and tasty food. Not over priced at all. My husband is a coeliac and they do GLUTEN FREE YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS. Other eating establishments take note - it...not only CAN be done, it SHOULD be done. Will return.More

Always do a fantastic lunch set menu meal deal but this surpassed all previous ones. Apparently chef over ordered too much fillet steak so they thought they would treat their lunchtime customers ! They certainly did! Fillet steak medallions with fries , veg and peppercorn...sauce for a £3 supplement making it just £22.95 for 2 courses with a brilliant and authentic French onion soup, whilst the wife had a mackerel pate starter, equally delicious. Black sheep on top form too! Excellent , friendly and efficient service too. There are not too many benefits of getting old but being retired and enjoying the Guy Fawkes is one of them!More

Each of our 3 courses were delicious 7 adults and 2 children. No complaints whatsoever. The service was very friendly and efficient. And price wise it was very reasonable for the quality of the food. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

We feel very lucky to be in walking distance of this great place. So many lovely meals- never been disappointed. As usual the food was excellent and so plentiful. The service as always was great- cheerful and helpful staff. We were particularly impressed with the...provision for the children and so lovely to see a children’s menu that was child size portions of adult food- not the fish fingers etc. that you so often see. We will continue to be regulars!More
