We have been coming to the Nags Head for many years and have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and service and our visits this year did not disappoint. We took advantage of the reduced price on the Wednesday and then rebooked for the Sunday, on both occasions the staff were excellent in the way they coped with the covid regulations, they were attentive even though on the Wednesday they were extremely busy. The food on both occasions was very good and the menu catered for all of us, vegetarian, vegan, children and me(the fussy eater). The owner took time out for a chat and too make sure that our visit had been a good experience. We will certainly be back later in the year.

Living only 5 mins away from the Nags Head I haven't actually visited the Restaurant for many years but having recently heard good reports from other locals decided to take a work colleague there for Supper this week. I was pleasantly surprised having read some of the lukewarm reviews below. A very attentive Host with an energetic 'on it' Team, a big menu supporting a range of dietary needs, good ambience with good lighting and warmth. It was busy for a Tuesday night but it is Half Term. We were able to choose from both the Specials Menu and the Daily Menu which was nice. The food was hot, generous and delicious. For Starters our party had the Homemade Roast Tomato Soup served with warm bread, Chicken Liver Parfait served with Welsh onion jam, crispy salad leaves and warm bread and Smoked Mackerel Pate served with a spicy tomato chutney, crispy salad leaves and warm bread. Extra bread was provided on request. The Starters were ample in size, in fact the soup was a very generous helping. Main courses were one of the Specials; Venison Meatballs served over tagliatelle pasta topped with Parmesan and basil oil which 2 of our party had and the other dish was Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle. The food was excellent in flavour and seasoning, did not need sides and sadly left no room for Pudding although there was a good Pudding menu. Draft Cider and Beer were drunk also. In all a very pleasant evening and excellent value for money. Would highly recommend eating here and we will be returning also.

Great little pub with bags of atmosphere very busy obviously a favorite with locals and visitors alike. All our meals were really tasty and the service was friendly and quick I can recommend the guest beers and my partner enjoyed her wine so all good. Landlord was a friendly chap too so we will definitely call again!

One of the children’s meals was forgotten and we had to call the waitress over to ask them to chase it up. Meal eventually came when others were half way through their meal, it looked like slop with some pasta thrown in (photo speaks for itself). Main meals were overpriced, half the fries were so dry they were inedible, sausages poor quality. Lasagne seemed to be pre-made and warmed up on site, barely any meat in it and was poor quality too. We asked that the pasta be removed from the bill as it was so disgusting and late to the table, this was agreed. The manager did come to the table to apologise. We left without desert and chose to get this elsewhere. Really wouldn’t recommend.

Sometimes we don't get it right, but 99% of the time we do, which in the current climate of COVID19 guidelines and delivering food outside in bad weather is not bad. The children's pasta was late and did not look good I will agree, which is why it was not charged for, the rest of the food was fine with all plates cleared. In my opinion outside dining with tired children on a wet and windy evening was the main cause of this poor review written within an hour of departing, and despite us ensuring at the last minute that an undercover table was provided, without any thanks. As for "overpriced" everybody has their own budget, and I apologise for not meeting this one, however, most reviews state that that our food is fairly priced. As for previous Tripadvisor reviews from this person, I would question the need to review McDonald's. Say no more Dewi and "crack on" please, you simply can't please everybody no matter how hard you try!

We were so happy to read in the news that the Nags had survived lockdown and was reopening, but don't be fooled this is not the same Nags Head where we have enjoyed some of the best pub meals of our lives!
We decided to pop down during the Eat out to Help midweek rush (that possibly was our first mistake!) but we had heard the Menu was now pretty basic and didn't want to pay a fortune for a burger - thankfully the food was half price because it deffinately wasnt worth the amount they were charging for it on the menu, fool on you if you visit at the weekend!
We were both saddened and shocked at how unorganised the service was, I'm guessing that staff are still getting used to the covid situation, but it really wasnt great! If the service was shocking then the food, compared to the standard we have enjoyed over the last few years was appauling. 'The burger' was an over cooked patty in a soggy bun with what appeared to be month old lettuce, a tiny portion of coleslaw and the chips were dry to the point of inedable.
We overheard a table near us commenting that the chef and manager had moved on during lock down so I can only assume they havnt been replaced yet! On the plus side desserts were still nice so apparently they still have their pastry chef!
Under normal situations we would have complained but considering how busy it was and that our food was already half price it didnt really seem worth it! A 3 is a generous reflection of the food but we so want the pub to sucseed again, I'm sure there are loads of great chefs looking for work at the moment so hopefully theyll bring in somebody before the ship sinks!

Timothy - your comments state that you were both saddened and shocked...well that makes two of us. I am saddened and shocked that you didn't feel it worth mentioning your disappointment or comments to me personally on the evening of your visit, and yet feel it worthwhile making the effort to write a "destructive" online review instead. You also say you want the pub to succeed 'again' whilst warning potential customers not to visit at the weekend. If our prices are now too high for you on our standard summer menu, then the pub meals you have so enjoyed in the past are maybe no longer for you. Our menu has changed to keep up with customer wishes and to try to streamline the service during these unprecedented times. All of our food is prepared and cooked to order, local produce is ordered and delivered daily. We don't always get it right, that I will admit, but we certainly strive to achieve perfection to deliver quality food with excellent service. If customers cannot raise their concerns at the time, there is little I can do to rectify it. Finally, yes, some staff have moved on to pastures new, inevitable in this industry, but we still have the same chefs and manager who are doing an admirable job in challenging circumstances. If you do want to return outside of the "silly season" and when our "specials" offerings will be back on, please call me (Dewi) directly and I will ensure I personally provide you with the quality service on a nice inside table, that you quite clearly crave for. All the best and let's do our best to "support local", thanks, Dewi.

Giving this pub a 3 out of 5 may seem harsh, but given we were a family of 4 adults we were put on a table basically in a crèche.
While I understand a Sunday lunch is a family event, when we phoned to book and said we were a family of 4 adults I wouldn’t have expected to be put in the area of the pub that had seemingly been designated for large families with small children.
This made for a loud atmosphere so much so that we struggled to hold a conversation due to the babies and children crying.
The large tables were close together, so close that our 2 Daughters sat on the end of the table instead of opposite us as it felt so cramped.
Once we had eaten our main course, we asked to be moved to the much quieter main part of the pub, the staff were in total agreement and couldn’t have been more helpful.
Onto the food…..
we all had the Sunday roast which presentation wise looks good with lots of meat and a big Yorkshire pudding.
However all of the veg on the plate was luke warm and the carrots that arrived as the seasonal veg was near raw.
Flavour wise the food was good, I think we wouldn’t have been so picky of the food had the atmosphere been better.
Desserts were served at our much quieter table, the chocolate brownie was a particular favourite, I had the cookie dough sunday which unfortunately had a strange taste, almost if the cream was sour.
Overall we would return, but would recommend asking for a table in the area near the bar as the further you go into the pub the more tables seem to be packed in to the rooms which made it feel cramped and chaotic.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, which I agree with you is harsh and very frustrating for us trying so hard in challenging times in the hospitality sector. I'm not sure what your objective is by leaving negative comments on social media, all of which could have been addressed quickly, had you raised them immediately with myself or a member of my Team.
We encourage people to book online so they can highlight in the sections provided if they want to be seated in a quiet area, or if it's a special occasion, or if they have dietary requirements and also if they are bringing children, need highchairs etc. However, unfortunately people do not always complete these, so on some occasions we are not informed of these requests.
As you rightly state, Sunday lunch is more often a family event and some families have young children, please note we already have 170 guests (mostly families) booked in for Mothers Day on March 27th, and we were fully booked yesterday with a very large proportion of the 120 guests we served in just over two hours, satisfied with both the food and the atmosphere, as per other reviews and feedback.
From your telephone booking, we had reserved you a table in the main quieter bar area yesterday, where you eventually ended up for your deserts, however, you chose to arrive approx 30 to 40 mins earlier than your booking time, which causes us issues when we are very busy and the allocated table was not available at that time. This left us with no choice than to seat you at the only available table (online) at the time, which was located next to a large family gathering with young children.
Had you asked us to relocate you immediately when the noise became unbearable for you, we could have relocated you to the back bar for drinks until your allocated table became available around 2pm. As soon as you did make us aware of your discomfort, we moved you to a table in the bar area which was, by this time, available.
With regard to the vegetables, I will pass that feedback to our kitchen team. Unfortunately, and by way of an explanation, rather than an excuse, our super new and very expensive Rational oven packed up on Saturday, leaving the chef's under pressure to maintain our normal consistency using other less efficient appliances. Again, had you raised this concern with us at the time, we could have tried to rectify it immediately.
Should you choose to return as stated, please book online via the booking form on our website and state where you would like to be seated. We will then do our very best to position you in a favourable place and hopefully avoid any further disappointment and frustration for both of us.

Been here a few times however last night seen very expensive for what we had. Garlic mushrooms small portion for £6 each, Sweet potato curry was tasty but the sweet potatoes had turned to mash. Veg with the sea bass wasn’t very nice and no greenery with the steaks. Tasty food and good service but want worth the cost.

Thank you for this review, we appreciate all forms of feedback. I've discussed your concerns with our kitchen team, which have been taken on board. I would however, as per other reviews, disagree that our food is expensive and would like to highlight that our steaks do not come with "greenery" as is stated on the menu, and which can be ordered as a separate side. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Nags Head in the near future. Diolch, Dewi.

We ate here 3 times in one week recently, it is very convenient for where we’re staying close by on holiday but more importantly the food and service is excellent.
My husband took a bit too much pleasure telling me it was the best Sunday lunch he’d had for a long time. I mean, he clarified by saying he meant eating out rather than at home...but he was right, a great roast. The highlight of my visits was the Tomahawk steak for 2 which I shared with my 10 year old carnivore son...who ate more than his share and then gnawed all remaining meat off the bone. A great dish to share, I really recommend it if you enjoy a steak.
Kids meals also good value and a good size for older children too.
Owner Dewi and all the staff are welcoming and friendly, the whole experience of eating here is cosy and relaxed and we all really enjoyed the food here.
Lovely wine and beer selection too, great food, highly recommended.

We were on holiday locally and booked a table for 6. We were a little trepidation’s about eating out, but the staff have done a great job of organising themselves and the beer garden in terms of COVID precautions. They have a one way system in place, hand sanitiser, all staff wear masks, and your temperature is taken on arrival.
Waiting staff were very friendly and efficient, and the food was very good. Staff were able to tweak a couple of dishes for us to cater for dietary needs or because someone was trying something for the first time but didn’t want it to spoil the meal if they didn’t like it. Desserts were all divine.
A great experience, only slightly spoiled by the one thing which the staff were unable to do much about - one or two customers not doing what they were asked to do (follow the one way system, stay 2 metres away from other customers).

My husband and myself visited Newcastle Emlyn today, 6 th March 2020. On our drive home, we took a wrong turning and ended up outside the Nags Head. What a find, why had it taken us so long. We were welcomed cordially and shown to our table.Drinks were promptly served. Our orders taken and after a short wait, two delicious, freshly cooked meals arrived.I had fish and chips, fresh fish, very tasty in a lovely light batter. My husband had faggots (made locally) chips and peas, equally delicious. We shared the Creme Brûlée, well I ate most of it.Very reasonably priced and we are already looking forward to our return.

This "pub with rooms" was an absolute delight. The small but very comfortable room was immaculate with excellent en suite facilities I. We had dinner on the deck overlooking the river. I choose the venison loin dish it turned out to be an absolute triumph. It was beautifully presented from the delicious puree, through forest mushrooms, and blackberry jus to the the little finish touch of a piece of crispy deep fried cavalo nero on top. It would have graced the table of any fine dining establishment , oh! and it was absolutely delicious. My wife had the house burger and found it excellent as well so the chef here can cut it runs a a at any level as I found out when having eggs benedict for breakfast the next morning. The hard working boss runs a team of charming friendly staff who were kept super busy by the covid regs that were vey well observed. Highly recommended to eat or stay, preferably both!

First class food, service and environment. Outside table well spaced and next to the river which kept us cool in 28 degrees!
We had the gourmet burger cooked to perfection, the Mexican chicken burger and lasagne with garlic bread. The onion rings were mahooosive and I've no idea how they get them so crisp? Lovely afternoon out away from the coastal crowds that are driving us mad. Ffynonne falls is also well worth a visit ...our dog and 11 year old loved it.

We booked a table outside by the river for dinner. Although it rained at one point, we were kept dry by the large umbrella. The staff were doing a great job beetling back and forth form the kitchen to the tables in the rain.
After a good start with our main course delivered fairly quickly, we were disappointed to have to wait 45 mins before a member of staff made it back to our table. We would have had pudding but by that point had lost our enthusiasm and just got the bill.
Food pretty good and a nice place.
