About
Nestled between the hills of Cwm and offering views of the Vale of Clwyd, the Irish Sea and the mountains of Snowdonia, sits the Blue Lion. Known by the locals as y Llew Glas, the Blue Lion was originally built to house the monks of the nearby church in the early seventeenth century. The second oldest free house in Wales still offers the rustic roaring fires of a country tavern, alongside a comfortable, contemporary atmosphere. Enjoy the lively, open restaurant or the secluded snug and try our fabulous selection of food, wines and coffees. You may even catch a glimpse of our resident ghost, John Henry, a young farmer who died in mysterious circumstances during a drunken brawl. Offering a select menu of quality food, quality beers and wines, and the friendliest of welcomes. The Blue Lion Inn in Cwm offers a 17th Century lounge area with open fires and wood burners, comfortable fireside settees, ample space and quite private snugs, as well as a large restaurant room available for hire for special events such as parties, weddings, etc. We also have a large public bar area, complete with pool table and darts board. This leads to a spacious patio area with outstanding views over the Vale of Clwyd. We also have a large car park.

The Blue Lion Inn offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that many guests appreciate, complete with a cozy log fire and subtle background music. While the food generally receives praise for its fresh, homemade dishes and generous portions, there have been mixed reviews about food quality and service. Patrons often consider the restaurant to provide good value, although opinions differ, with some deeming it overpriced. Despite the friendly and accommodating service noted by several visitors, some warn of lengthy waits and occasional lapses in order fulfilment.

The service was good, with helpful staff. We were given enough space to enjoy our meal and the portion size was very healthy and well priced. This is definitely a really lovey pub with plenty of nooks and crannies to enjoy a peaceful meal at a good price.

Excellent Sunday lunch, extra touches such as vegetarian cashew Wellington, luxury mash potato. Food is cooked to order and is not always the quickest around, it is however well worth the wait. Great value for money.

Had Sunday lunch here -probably the best Sunday lunch out I've had. Delicious food, cooked to order-& lots of it. Highly recommended. The only reason for 4 stars is the wine and the lengthy wait. I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc and it smelled and tasted awful. It was undrinkable. We orderd starters and mains. Starters took 45 minutes and the main another 30. Covid measures all in place.

Visited for Sunday lunch with the family. Will not be visiting again and most certainly will not be recommending this place to anyone. The food was barely warm let alone hot. Asked for the beef to be served pink but was processed meat so came over cooked. Roast potatoes cold. Although at least we got some the people on the table next to us didn’t even get roast potatoes! Packet veg and it was all hidden with thick lumpy unmixed gravy. This place may have only just reopened a few days ago but if the standards remain at the level I can’t imagine it will be open very long.

I booked a last minute table for 3 today. We all arrived on time and immediately noticed the improvements inside and outside. It is however still dark and gloomy in places. I had to move around the bar to attract the attention of the four staff who were stood together talking and the man waiting next to me eventually gave up and left. I managed to order drinks and was told our table would be just a moment. Nearly twenty minutes later it was. We ordered quickly quickly, anticipating a delay, two Sunday lunches, one ham,egg and chips. Food arrived in reasonable time but both Sunday lunches were cool and the chip portion with the Ham and egg was skimpy. The waiter had to be reminded to bring cutlery and we had to flag down someone else to get apple sauce and horseradish. Our food tasted ok but would have been better hotter. No one asked if everything was ok . We decided not to have dessert and on paying the bill I was not asked if all was ok. I wouldn’t have written this if the opportunity to tell someone about our experience had been available. I had to move from one side of the bar to the other to attract attention to pay. We hope that these issues will be sorted out as we do understand that the Blue Lion is only recently re-opened but it is unlikely that we will return in a hurry.

I’ve visited a few times in the year with friends and have been impressed every time, so I decided to treat my Mum and the rest of the family to a Sunday lunch at the pub. The new management have made a big improvement and clearly are passionate, delivering great service and quality well cooked food. The menu is very affordable, good value for your money and has lots of choice with children in mind too. I had the broccoli and Stilton soup to get started, which was full of flavour not too salty, seasoned well and was served pipping hot. Followed by a pork loin Sunday lunch, which was delicious and again pipping hot, fresh and plenty of it. The rest of my family had a variety of different meals aside from the lunches and they were all very happy and every plate was served hot and freshly cooked and presented well. We all even had room for pudding, which was presented lovely and went down a treat all round. Certainly will be visiting again soon with being local and will encourage others to support the new management who are doing a fab job of bringing the pub back to life.

Having visited the Blue Lion off and on for thirty years, like so many rural places it has had it's ups and downs. This was our first visit here under the new ownership, and we were impressed with the attentive and welcoming young staff, the wide selection of beers at the bar and the quality (and portion size) of the meals. We'd been told to expect "pub grub", and whilst typical pub fare was on the menu, there were some more imaginative choices which didn't disappoint, and which were fairly priced. We'll certainly be back 'en famille'.

What a lovey welcome from Megan and her team. A little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. We went on Friday with friends and although the service was a bit slow we never mind for home made delicious food. We have been back today for a light lunch that was also good. I can’t wait to sit in the beer garden and watch the sunsets.

Well as good as ever The Blue Lion Cwm by Dyserth is back. Lovely renovation inside and lots of rooms in this typical old pub including the large room in the back where we sat. Everywhere was very clean and the kitchen looked immaculate and all very organised. It has a nice atmosphere in here. Perfect service from well trained, uniformed staff and tables cleared right away. Loved the pub menu choices and recommend you try the peppered chicken pie 👍 Good portions, all nicely presented and quick to serve us. Picnic type benches available outside to take in those amazing views. Love it here especially on a perfect evening like tonight ☀️

The food was fantastic everyone had different dishes, including the children, no leftovers on any plates. It was hot, beautifully presented and soooo appetizing. I cannot praise or thank everyone of you enough for adding to my daughters 40th birthday memories.I wish the team continued success in all that do. Would we return? Of course sooner rather than later

We stayed for a week in the local area and visited the Blue Lion Inn on a number of occasions, including for meals. Megan (the maître d') and Jonny (the chef) have refurbished the Inn this year and definitely have somewhere to be very proud of. The premises are stylish as well as being set in a great location with wonderful views. Most importantly, the staff and the food are first class - just what you want from a quality Inn! We wish we could be there for the upcoming Festive Season as I'm sure the food and festivities will be first class. Not to worry though as we will definitely be visiting again next year! Well done to Megan & Jonny - and thank you!

My wife and I only called in for a drink, however, we decided to have some lunch, due to the ambiance. The lady that gave us the menus explained that the lunchtime menu was available, but the portions are small if we decided to go for either the 2 or 3 courses. We both decided on 2 courses, with my wife ordering the chili con carne, and beef stroganoff and rice for me. We both went for the daily crumble, which happened to be apple. When the food arrived, I couldn't believe how small the portion actually looked. The lady was not wrong when she said the portions were small. However, both our meals were extremely tasty, I just could have done with a bit more. The apple crumble was a good size, and both it and the custard were very tasty, in fact, I would say this was one of the best crumbles I have ever had. Even though the main course was so small, I did feel quite full after the crumble, and of course the two accompanying pints. The staff was also very friendly. Although I have only given 4 stars, because of the size of the main course, the flavours were excellent and we will return.

Booked in for Sunday lunch after being recommended by a friend. Wow, absolutely delicious. I had the pate starter and my husband had haddck fishcake served in a creamy leek sauce with poached egg. The lamb had sold out so we both had the roast beef for mains with the biggest Yorkshire pud I have ever seen, and my husband had the eton mess for dessert. Everything about the entire meal was cooking to perfection and and was absolutely delicious. Very highly recommended indeed.

Good choice on menu, portions are a good size especially the mixed grill. Food is all cooked from fresh so it takes a bit longer to be served but definitely worth the wait. Staff are very friendly and efficient.
