Great community resource for walkers and cyclists. Only open Sundays but well worth a detour down Jinney Lane if you are in the Pendle area. Lots of information about the original Clarion initiative and the socialist movement. We ordered drinks and a biscuit (take your...own pack up if you want) and got into a conversation with a local lady. Before we knew it we were putting the world to rights!! Amazing views too. Ran my volunteers so go support them !More
Clarion house is an historic building built by the early socialist as a place to eat a packed lunch whilst out for a ride on the bike or walking. It's a charming little place nice and snug. Well worth a visit
Found this little gem whilst on a walk...thought it was closed but on inspection it was open! Friendly service, excellent value, an open fire and such a unique place, what more can you ask for!
On a very crisp Autumn Sunday we received a warm welcome at the Clarion with its coal fire, pint of tea (made the old fashioned way with loose tea leaves) and refectory benches and tables creating a communal experience hard to find in modern day...life. Historic, rustic, a haven for walkers and cyclists, visit their website to understand the Clarion's socialist traditions. Love this place.More
Concert on at Clarion when we visited in July 2016m 'Keep the Red Flag Flying Here' and other such finger in one ear type stuff. Expected seeing Jerry Corbin or Derek Hatton... but no .... Must have been well over 100 people there... . Marquee..., out door catering....Then did Nick o' Pendle. Easier climb than I was expecting.... Great views.... Some other cyclists were at the top having an argument with a teenage lad who was driving like a 95 year old woman..... 6000 rpm, 1st gear, smoke billowing from the clutch... Then Whalley , Ribby, Broughton.... etcMore
Great for walkers, cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists. Bring your own food !! They do drinks and toffees etc . 35 p for a pint of tea - can't better that. {Booths do a free hot drink for card holders}. In door and our door seating,...bike stand, playground, pets welcome, LANDRANGER 1:50 000 Series, Sheet 103 OUTDOOR LEISURE 1:25 000 Series, Map 21 National Grid Reference SD 832 396 Lat: 53:51:08N (53.8523) Lon: 2:15:29W (-2.2579) Regrettably the Sunday Pendle Witch Hopper bus service no longer operates due to government cuts to local government funding. Tricky to get here on a fixie as some steep hills. Grand walk up Pendle - not the highest hill top in Gerrymandered Lancashire. Coniston Old Man used to be. Gragareth {2,057 feet, according to the OS} or Green Hill {2,054} both above Cowan Bridge are claimed, depending on the source , to be the highest point in Lancashire.More
