Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a truly great pub and for real ale lovers you won’t be disappointed. I have been to 100’s of pubs across the country and the beer in this pub is as good as any pub I have ever been into.
Everyone is really friendly and there is a lovely dog friendly beer garden.
On Saturdays they do a variety of street food as well.
A beer lovers paradise with ever changing local ales.

I lucked in on Saturday at Garboldisham's community pub 'The Fox', having one of the best evenings of conversation and music I have had in a long time.
Run by locals on a voluntary basis, I got the chance to enjoy the truly special atmosphere The Fox offers up, both quietly over a few drinks at lunch as well as later that evening when we had to return because of the promise of the 'pretty good' band who were to be playing. Yield was that in spades, and the pub's conviviality and warmth shone through altogether differently, yet ultimately with the same result; a feeling of being welcomed, looked after and a little bit spoilt, considering that this could be seen as just another English village pub. It isn't, and I will be back.

This is one of the best pubs in the area. We have been lucky to watch it grow from a derelict building to the welcoming pub it is now, and hope to see it continue to flourish.
Beer is well kept. And there is always a great selection from local breweries.
Staff are charming and hard working.
Pop-up food is a brilliant addition.
The welcome you get here, even if you are not local ( and we aren't) is unsurpassable.
Check out the opening hours and special events, it's a gem not to be missed.

Best thing about pub is friendly faces behind bar and variety of drinks, beers and ciders on offer.
However seats uncomfortable if your having a meal and not much space to move around those seats to get around table as other tables close by.
Also could hear everyones conversation so perhaps some background music would help this.
We had Sunday lunch provided by the Field Kitchen an outside catering company and at £15.25 was disappointed by the temperature of the food and therefore some food items reflected this (the roast potatoes were not crispy) There was more slow roasted beef than topside on my plate and the pork belly again did not have the fat crispy so no crackling.
It reminded me of how my grandmother would cook it not much seasoning in the gravy more flour based and no wine.
I did however enjoy the butternut squash and parsnip puree, cauliflower cheese, yorkshire pudding and unusual stuffing with feta, leek, prune and sage.
We looked at the desserts at £6 each that came to another table but it didnt excite us, perhaps some garnish with the chocolate torte instead of just cream i.e. some berries and the portions looked quite small (we were not sure if these were homemade or shop brought as it is not mentioned on their menu?)
Also I did not rate the paper cartons for the apple, mustard and horseradish sauce as I am actually sitting down at a table with a knife and fork and paying those prices rather than at a food festival setting.

We stopped off for a well deserved pint one Saturday afternoon. It was my first visit but my partner had been before. The ale was excellent. The garden is lovely and the tables are well spaced. Good for social distancing and when your lockdown dog is still learning how to behave at the pub.
The staff were friendly and I was amazed to learn how hard the locals have worked to keep the pub. Community spirit is alive and well at The Fox and I look forward to visiting again soon.

My friend and l live 45 miles away from each other. The Fox is about half way, so that's where we met for lunch. Good food. Good beer. Friendly and efficient people running the place. Safe 'COVID' systems in place. So, I have no doubt we'll be repeating the experience.

This in my opinion is one of the very best community pubs I have ever visited and always go back when visiting family in nearby Diss. Very friendly staff, very reasonable prices and always keeps good beer and ciders.
Although no daily menu is available (no on site catering) food is often available on selected published evenings (off-site caterers attend) and a lovely Sunday lunch is also available on selected dates through the year (again off-site caterers)
This pub has an excellent atmosphere, and is very often busy when they have a "theme" night or at Christmastime - we love it.
Check out their face book page for information on events and what beers they have on tap - which is ever changing as they are a free house.

Always so happy when pubs get a new lease of life, and this is exactly what has happened here! A team of dedicated community volunteers run a fantastic pub here, with well kept local ale, and visiting food stalls throughout the year. Service was quick, staff very welcoming, pet friendly too! Will come back again.

Great to see the Fox flourishing after 10 years of decay with great ales, bites, street food and lovely new developments each time we visit. I love the Fox and atmosphere but please please retain that welcoming feel. Some "locals" look down on others not from the village, please please don't let this continue as you will drive away passers by and those from nearby villages who love it and only want it to thrive.

Having seen the publicity about the community owned pub, we decided to call in for a drink. Rarely have I felt so welcome at a pub. The staff were brilliant and on the bar was a choice of 5 beers, four of which I reckon were from the best four local breweries in Norfolk/Suffolk. There was draught cider and Simnel Cake for Easter. It is clear that the pub is at the heart of the community and it was a pity we were there at lunchtime and not evening when Lebanese street food was on offer. A tremendous village local.

Hi Jeff1903, many thanks for your positive and kind words about our community pub, we have all been working very hard over the last 3 years to get the pub open and to the stage we are at now,(we still have a lot to do).
The Fox was bought by the local community and is run and managed solely by local volunteers, all our profits go back into the Fox for restoration, renovations and repairs.
All of our real ales & ciders we try to source for local independent breweries as they have been very supportive of us and we in turn want to support local businesses in the Anglia region.
Our street food sellers are also local independent traders, we have different one every Saturday on a 6 week rotation.
We hop that we will see you again soon and keep spreading the word.
Many thanks from all of us here at the Fox.

We all love the fox pub since the village have taken it over! The pub come alive once more and is still work in progress. It is very clear that it has given the village a new lease of life and has become united once again. It has a great atmosphere, everyone is happy and definitely worth a visit, with a large range of Ale, and beer.
All the achievements to date have been done is by hard working volunteers who give up their time to renovate, and work in the pub. At present they do not serve in-house food but at weekends local pop up cuisine is set up outside and can be eaten along with a beverage inside. This changes weekly so look out for the signs on what is on offer!

Hi there many thanks for your review, it is always good to hear from our customers with their comments, it has been a long hard journey so far but we are making steady progress, as you say all the work is carrilut by our volunteers and it is till work in progress. But what has been created so far seems to be appreciated by all.
All the Real Ales and our street food sellers all come from this region and change on a weekly basis. We have been supported by these small local businesses and we in turn like to support them.
We hope to see you again soon.
Regards

My wife and I are local to the Fox and have been there many times, we have watched it grow from being closed and falling down to last night having a pub full of happy, chatting, drinking and eating customers that many of the pubs in the local area would be happy to have on a sat night. The range of cask ale is always varied and the team look after the beer really well and quality is always excellent. One thing that has been a real hit is the pop up food offering on Sat nights. What a fantastic idea, Pizza, Souvlaki, Thai, Pies, Paella to name but a few. If other local pubs tried this hard to keep their customers coming back with variety and quality maybe we wouldn't see the decline we have over the last few years. Cheers to the Fox and the team that work so bloody hard to keep it real.

Hi Michael, may I say thank you for your kind words about The Fox Inn, it has been a difficult and busy couple of years for all the volunteers to get us to where we are now.
It is always good to receive feedback both good and bad, this is one of the many tools we can use to help and improve our service to the community.
We are please that you appreciate the time & effort pit in to source our street food sellers & the diverse range of good quality local real ales.
As you say this weekend the Fox was full of happy customers enjoying the atmosphere and company, we like to think we are “Making Memories”.
Once again on behalf of all our volunteers many thanks for your support & kind words,
it will be good to meet you and have a chat next time you are in the Fox 🦊
