Having finally escaped London for a lockdown holiday, I found the Bridford Inn online when looking for a good Sunday lunch. Bridford is a little village in the middle of nowhere and it took us an hour to get there....and, damn, it was worth the effort. A 17th century inn in beautiful surroundings. A wonderfully warm and cheery welcome. Yorkshire beer (no, I don't get it either other than the landlord being from Leeds). And the food? Heavenly. A huge portion of rare roast beef - incredibly tender and they cooked some medium for my wife - and a mound of excellent roasted veggies. Add some cabbage, carrots, beans, cauliflower cheese... I'd been expecting to try their desserts but I was stuffed! Great value at £12.50. Huge applause to the Bridford Inn, this was faultless.

Hi KeithA564
Thank you for your lovely comments, we’re delighted you enjoyed your visit and that your trip was worthwhile.
The Yorkshire beer was pure coincidence. As we keep Dartmoor Jail Ale on permanently we like to mix it up with our other ales and stock a range of local and national beers. At the moment we’re a bit limited by what suppliers have available but fortunately Osset brewery is known to us and their beer is popular with our regulars when it’s on. It keeps things interesting 😊
We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Devon. Thank you again for your kind compliments.
Kind regards
Lyn & Dean

We booked the day before following a recommendation from the cottage we are staying at. Landlord was very helpful and fitted us in despite being busy. We walked there and worked up our appetite... well nothing disappointed! A great warm welcome, absolutely delicious, beef was local cooked to perfection and veg local, fresh and tasty. Yorkies just like Nan used to make them! Service was charming, right balance of chat and letting us enjoy our meal. A brilliant Sunday lunch and well worth the very steep uphill walk. Thank you! X
P.S our dog was very welcome too

Many thanks NIP1.
Thank goodness we were worth that walk, that’s a pretty big hill you walked up and I’m impressed. At least it was downhill on the way back 😊
It was lovely to meet all three of you and we’re delighted you enjoyed it. Thank you again for your kind review (and message).

Not our first visit but first for Sunday Roast - why did we not go before!!!! This is a great little pub with a very friendly and accommodating Landlord & Lady. There is no rush and the don’t do double bookings I.e 12 to 2 & 2 to 4 etc if you book at 12 you are welcome to stay all day. The chef is great and know how to cook you will not be disappointed. If you like your motorbike don’t leave without a chat to the Landlord😉

It was great to see you again and we’re very pleased you enjoyed your lunch and the sunshine. Dean doesn’t need much encouraging to chat about motorbikes (or about anything with an engine really 🤣) so he’s always happy to compare notes.
We hope you had a good drive home and got out of the car park ok amongst all the TRs that arrived with the car club.
Hope to see you again,
Kind regards

I received a friendly welcome on arrival and enjoyed a fine pint of local cider sitting in the beer garden enjoying the sunshine and the view.
After an interesting chat with some of the locals I had ham egg and chips which was superb as usual, washed down by another different cider from Sandford Orchards.
After lunch I walked back to Steps Bridge to catch my bus back. I will try not to leave it song long before my next walking visit here!

Having travelled from Suffolk to bridford for our anniversary weekend we were advised of local places to eat. The bridford inn being the first option so we booked up. I've been to many local pubs before in small villages and are usually greeted by silence and a look of 'who are these strangers'. However, the bridford inn was extremely welcoming and every single member of staff and person in the pub were friendly. We befriended a couple of dogs in there which was great and our choice to as we asked. The dogs however were secure with their owners and very calm so if your a dog lover like me or not it really didn't matter as they were very well behaved. We spoke to locals and even met the owners and their son who were all very friendly, down to earth and had great sense of humour. Service was fast and the food was on another level entirely. Piping hot and fresh. You could tell it was not batch cooked and reheated as the quality was spot on and the flavours all complimented each other. Not sure who the chef was but they definitely knew what they were doing. My wife likes a gin and I like a single malt whiskey, so to find they had a vast array of both was spectacular and we both tried types that we had not tried before.
Pub itself was exactly what you'd want from a small village. Very cosy, wooden beams, beautiful log burner and a section with a pool table which was just out of the way enough to not hear. The atmosphere was superb.
Cannot recommend this pub enough and would happily travel all the way from Suffolk if only to go there for some very homely food which is to die for.
Do not miss out on this gem.
Attached is image of whiskey I tried which I had not had before. Very clued up on the flavours so the management guided me on that also.

Hi Martin, thank you for the fabulous review and for choosing us for your anniversary dinner. We’re really pleased you enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to look after you both.
I did wonder who’d been at the gins and malts; you’ve got Dean off the hook as I thought it was him 🤣. Our regulars are hoping you’ll be back soon as they were impressed with Claire’s dog whispering skills and they’re hoping the in-house dog sitting may become a regular service?
We really hope you’ll visit again some time, you’ll be very welcome.
Many thanks again for the very kind compliments.

We tried this pub/restaurant last night with kids in tow. Fantastic is the only way to describe the landlord and the welcome. We had Rump steak with all the trimmings it was excellent , we both said was the best steak we had eaten out in years. Generous portions , we just about managed to squeeze a shared pudding in… lovely atmosphere would highly recommend great selection of ciders/beers /ales and very child friendly . So good we are going back….totally deserves no 1 spot you must try this place

Hi benhill81
Thank you for the lovely feedback. Apologies again about no starters that evening. We’ve had a number of exceptionally busy days with things selling out at lunchtime and just not enough time to get everything prepped again for the evening. We only use and cook ingredients from fresh which is hopefully apparent from the quality and flavour of our dishes.
We hope you enjoyed your stay in the area.
Kind regards
Lyn

We were greeted on arrival like we were locals and immediately felt at ease . The owner came outside to take our order within minutes and chatted about the different wines available. There were two tables seated outside near us with locals . They were all so friendly and welcoming ! We soaked in the atmosphere and the glorious views and around 10 minutes later the food arrived. Ribeye steak cooked to perfection, a lovely Thai green curry . A special mention for the chips ! Now,I’m fussy about chips and these are the best I’ve had in a pub/restaurant for years .
We had a wonderful evening and will be returning as soon we can .
A slice of heaven in Devon !

Eat here 23/5, first roast here for over a year. OMG!
Many slices of succulent rare beer, lovely roasties, Homemade Yorkshire pudding, roasted parsnips, and pan gravy. A large bowl of mixed vegetables on the side and a separate bowl of cauliflower cheese. All pipping hot!
Heaven on a plate!
Great service from the owners, Lyn and Dean (and their food runner).
Absolutely deserve 6stars. Phenomenal !!!!

What a lovely welcome we had from the landlord and some of the locals who were at the bar. We had a very good lunch, fresh mussels from Fowey for me served with fries, and Steak and Stilton Pie for my husband that came with fresh vegetables, gravy and hand cut fries. The mussels were the best I have had for years and the pie was delicious too. Nice surroundings in this traditional village pub and it was lovely and clean - no sticky tables! We will be back. Thank you.

Looking for somewhere to meet up with friends and came across the Bridford Inn via a Google search. Made a booking for Sunday lunch and was advised they were expecting a large party so could we alter our time. No problem as we weren't in a hurry. However we arrived early in order to chat to our friends and the host invited us to dine earlier as the kitchen was already in full swing. I must say the food was delicious, the ambiance in the inn was exceptional and the host & hostess and team were very welcoming, very hospitable and exceedingly friendly. Highly recommended place to eat.

Well worth making the effort to reach this delightful village pub just within the Dartmoor National Park boundary. Although essentially a ‘locals’ local’ strangers are guaranteed the warmest of welcomes from the friendliest staff and management you could wish to meet. The Sunday lunch was recently voted one of the top 10 best in the county and lived up to that nomination on our recent visit - generous portions of perfection with a true taste of home. Top marks on all fronts - quality, value, staff and ambience. Will definitely be back.
