Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walked here from Eriskay with intermittent heavy rain, hail and gale force winds. Arrived at midday to be told they only had one serving of the soup of the day (lentil) so we bequeathed it to one of our party. Myself and another had the back up option which was tomato and red pepper which was delightful. The coffee and the victoria sponge cake were also produced to a high quality as well!

I had seen recommendations for gluten free and we enjoyed our lunch. Great location with a lovely seaside view. Staff were friendly and helpful in checking gluten free and to ensure no cross contamination. I had a great tuna toasted sandwich on gluten free bread and a portion of the most amazing chips , after staff confirmed they were gluten free , My husband had a burger and chips and equally enjoyed his meal. Very clean restaurant and good covid procedures in place. We really enjoyed our lunch and would certainly continue the good recommendation.

You get a lovely view out over the sea towards the Isle of Barra. Even on a grey January day this was beautiful. The cafe has a basic but nice selection of freshly prepared food and delicious homebakes, A bacon roll was well-filled with piping hot bacon - wonderful! The walls have some beautiful artwork. A really nice experience altogether.

Visited this cafe for a quick bite to eat but it seemed to take ages to even get in the door to get seated as you had to wait outside until a staff member showed you to your seat. Then we got shown to a table and had to wait again for a staff member to come over for our orders. I opted for a panini with cheese and ham and got asked if it was brown or white panini I asked for brown bread pot of tea and other order was just a cup of coffee. When my order arrived it had magically went from panini to brown bread toastie! I didn't complain as by this time we had been waiting so long I was just glad to get lunch of any kind. I found the staff to be very young and immature and they seemed to prefer standing behind counter laughing and joking with the kitchen staff. I was not impressed. There was only 2 other tables with customers besides us and service could all have been done much quicker and then they could have got back to their laughing and joking so much sooner! It is a nice cafe on a lovely campsite and hostel and the servers are letting this place down.

Positives, soup was very tasty.
Negatives, I have seen bigger tea cups than the soup bowl. Not sure where you buy bowls this small. Heated roll was also tiny, just slightly bigger than a custard cream. Really poor portions.
Place was freezing.

The place was lovely and clean. Staff were welcoming.
Our day had started early - we had caught the ferry from Barra. Kilbride Cafe is a perfect option for getting breakfast once you've arrived in South Uist.
Great coffee, breakfasts nice and fresh, cakes were great (love the Mars Krispie slice).
The island doesn't have many cafes, so people are fortunate to have this one.
It felt very covid safe and super clean.

Driving past, feeling hungry; stopped in for lunch.
Egg Mayo sandwich, Cheese & Ham Panini, piece (large) of cake, coffee, tea and Diet Coke. All for under £17!!!
All were of great quality and excellent quantity.
Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in South Uist

We had a breakfast here a few days ago - fabulous. Food cooked well , service good if a tad slow, but a good food experience.
Called in today and clearly there was chaos in the kitchen. Received someone else’s order, then got my own order but husbands didn’t turn up. Then he was offered cake instead of the cooked meal which was ordered. Complete chaos and when the haddock and chips arrived I’m afraid if wasn’t worth the wait. Such a shame as our previous visit was so good.
Not a good experience and haddock and chips simply not worth the money.

We loved this cafe from previous trips but left disappointed this time. Two young ladies were serving and tbh were more interested in their phones than customers. Most locals are so friendly so this really stood out for all the wrong reasons.
The food was ok but only if you have nowhere else to eat… we’d hoped for the all day breakfast on the website but we were bluntly told that was the summer menu. No seafood just burgers etc. with a smile and a wee apology we’d have accepted that easily enough but there was nothing.
The finale was the wait to try and pay! Laughable really…. Anyway, it was the only negative of our trip to those wonderful isles. I hope the owner reads this and has a wee word with them as a smile and some service is cheap and makes a big difference.

A good cafe for breakfast and lunches serving basic fare ( everything with chips !) and home baking. Open from 8.30 am until last food orders at 3 pm. I had a bacon and black pudding roll which contained a substantial slice of Stornoway black pudding. Waited 20 minutes for it despite the cafe being almost empty. The cafe has an outdoor deck with views over the sea and it is adjacent to the Kilbride campsite. It has free WiFi.

Excellent place to eat. We visited twice during our trip and would've visited again if we had more time. Fantastic vegan choices (i had the Moving Mountains burger with skin-on chips and salad) and my partner had a double chorizo burger which he loved. There's even home made ice-cream for afters as well as home made cakes and scones! Lovely atmosphere and an interesting exhibition on the walls.

Was staying at joined campsite and had lunch a couple of days while there. Was during Covid so we sat outside. Weather was lovely anyway. Food was good and cake was good. Reasonable cost. Names and contact details taken for T&T.

Stopped here for coffee/tea and cake on the way to the ferry across to Barra. Efficient friendly service. Good Covid measures and the drinks were good and chocolate cake delicious! Added bonus the weather was good enough to sit on table benched outside and enjoy the fantastic views. Cannot comment on main meals

Stayed at the hostel next door and visited the cafe. Great people and a lovely place. The location is stunning too and a brilliant base for visiting Barra, Eriskay, and the iron age house just up the coast. Thanks for having us. Loved it.
