Very tasty food and excellent value. We had a chef's menu for 2, and it didn't disappoint. The fruit lassi is recommended, we both enjoyed it. We arrived in the middle of a mad hour with the restaurant full and endless takeaway orders being taken...and fulfilled, which made service very slow. Once the crazy rush subsided, the staff were very welcoming.More

This is a small place so best to book, but well worth it. The menu is varied and has several dishes I had never heard of. When the food arrives it is excellent, very tasty. One thing which we hadn't realised; when we went it...was not licensed, but you could take your own drinks in.More

ordered a tandori mixed starter. pilaw rice and a lamb buna. got a chap to pick it up for me. they charged him 16.75 overcharged by 4 pounds. the lamb buna contained 4 tiny cubes of lamb and was hot on the outside luke warm...on the inside. this was actually pretty good in the past but the last 3 times i have eaten from here it has been progressively worse. wont be trying it again. they have given up, or should. very disapointingMore

Just had what was without doubt the worst curry I’ve had for many years. It started badly with soft poppadoms. My sagwala which was essentially 4 pieces of tandoori chicken, spinach and peas! There was no sauce and no flavour or spice. The services was...also poor. Oh and the toilet was broken. Definitely won’t be back!More

Our family and friends have been coming here for years, but on the last two visits over the past few months, I don’t know if it has changed hands , but the portions size has gone down, the orders the first time in April the...meal just didn’t taste right but was definitely not as it used to be, this time weekend of the 14th April I thought I’d order my usual favourite and also my wife had her usual , sadly again portion size had gone down and mine had pieces of chicken ticks in not all was chicken ticks but at least two pieces and was not in the description my wife’s also had pieces of chicken that looked like it had been cut into and certainly much harder than the other pieces and she felt that it was probably recycled from what had come back ??? Whatever it didn’t taste the same and certainly wasn’t the same quality, if they are going to drop their standards and want to keep their regular customers they are going have to up their game, I feel that two visits with the same results means that it is very doubtful that we will not be going again &will be looking for an alternative, sorry as we have been going to the Ganges for yearsMore

Don’t even think the one rating is deserved!! Away for the weekend and looking forward to an Indian takeaway on Sunday evening. Drive 20 mins to pick it up and got back to find my Saag Aloo dish was missing. Great start. Ordered a chicken...shaslick bhuna, tipped it onto the plate and it stayed the shape of the container it came in, it was a thick, tasteless congealed mess, not the rich sauce that was advertised. The onion bhajis were so hard you couldn’t even bight into them and the chips looked like they were warmed up from two nights ago. If I wasn’t staying so far from the place it would of all gone into a food recycling bag and I would of taken it back and demanded my money back. Worst takeaway I’ve ever had!!!!More

If you don’t mind being watched eating then this place is for you. The 2 waiters stood and watched every mouthful.. the curry is tasteless, the nan bread is a sloppy mess, the restaurant is very old fashioned and small, the couple next to us...might as well have been sat on the same table, plates are very dated, rice comes in the water. Chutney tray is cold orange water, a lumpy mango and a full onion. We were waiting on Ant & Dec to jump out and say prank! Only reason I have given 1 star is because there’s no choice for 0. Entertainment consisted of a local questioning the price to be told it’s April we add £2 on to the bill.. a Indian lovers nightmareMore

We visited on a wet and wild Saturday night in February, as we were staying in a nearby campsite. We booked ahead but had the restaurant to ourselves. The restaurant itself is small but clean. The waiter was lovely - attentive but also gave us...time to make our choices. The restaurant doesn't serve alcohol but they're happy for you to take your own in, and will happily provide glasses. We ordered a mixed starter to share and it was delicious - sheek kebabs, homemade bhajis and pakoras. Our mains were chicken roshuni and a house special dish. Both were lovely, and not too hot, meaning you could actually taste the flavours. No desserts, but I had a coffee cream. Some other reviews on here have suggested that the prices are expensive, but I don't know where they're eating as the prices are in line with what we pay at home. We would definitely recommend the Ganges to anyone looking for a relaxed, tasty meal in the areaMore

I do not lightly put a one star review however this is the only score I could give. We walked past and noticed the restaurant was empty, after a couple of drinks and despite the protestations of some locals at how bad it was we...thought a sit down meal was fitting. Unfortunately the reason the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night became evident fairly quickly. To be fair the staff were friendly which is one positive. We were a party of five and obviously were quickly seated in the small seating area. As a point of reference they do not serve alcohol, but offer a soft drink menu. They told us we could bring our own alcohol (It would have been a little after the horse had bolted had we wanted too). We ordered Poppadoms as a starter, and then were offered another mixed starter as well. The Poppadom part was pleasant enough with the normal selection of accompaniments. Had we ended the meal here, I think it would have been a better experience. We ordered our main courses as the mixed starters arrived. What was presented looked ok however the meats were over cooked and lacked any flavour as a result and the words dry and tasteless was the concensus. We managed between us to eat the majority of the course more out of politeness than any real enjoyment. Our mains arrived 2 had a Chicken Tikka (Dry) and the reports were again over cooked and dry without any flavour, one had I believe a Tandori Chicken or similar. He described the meal as the worst Indian he had in the UK although said he had experience similar in parts of Germany? Two of us (including myself) had A King Prawn Dish I believe the Batura. It was awful. The dish can only be described as lacking prawns - certainly not King Prawns and was effectively looked like a few bhajis dumped in an flavourless slop more reminiscent of the leavings of a lavatory than a meal. The King prawns were decidedly lacking in the dish too. If there were prawns they were so over come that you certainly couldn't taste them and could barely find them. If i was to guess I would say there was possibly some tiny defrosted prawns in amongst the mess of bhaji. As a result it became an unrecognisable tasteless brown mess. The restaurant seems to think they are adding to the presentation by marking each plate with a streak of green sauce on the plate - My personal opinion was it was a poor choice of colour and merely emphasised that it was far from a culinary experience to be repeated and emphasised the distinct lack of flavour by attempting to mimic a meal of more quality and doing so poorly. We also had ordered Naans which were cooked and presented well although I personally had Garlic I would assume it was not made with fresh Garlic as it was more of a hint of than a flavour but was edible. Other than popping a head out around the corner from out back we were largely left to our own devices meaning we each only had a single soft drink with our meal. The friendly waiter popped out and seeing more chatting than eating asked if the meals were ok - the silence that followed and the food left on each of the plates spoke volumes. He began clearing some plates and I was still nibbling on a Naan, but had mistakenly put some in the sauce my meal came with so left that there and was eating from the plate in the middle of the table, The Waiter grabbed the plate with his thumb in the naans (There were two halves of Naan still on the plate) before he realised and asked if I was still eating - unfortunately as he had touched it I no longer fancied it. There also seems to be a discrepency on the prices on the take away menu and the prices on the menu in the restaurant which is a little disappointing. The meal was not cheap, was left half eaten and frankly of a very poor standard. I have since read the reviews others appear to have left and had we not been warned by numerous people how bad it was might have assumed it was a one off, or that the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night by chance (Given the other sit down meal options in the town were effectively the Castle Hotel or the Six Bells it was pretty appalling the only other patrons were those getting a take away which was two Take Aways on a Saturday night in the hour or so we was in there, The positives Friendly staff Poppadoms and Naans were fine The Negatives Over cooked starter Meals poorly executed and lacking any flavour King prawns decidedly lacking Waiter removed food and touched it before checking it was finished Drink service lacking I would never go back it was that bad, I also think they are missing a trick as if the food had been of even a mediocre standard it would likely be extremely busy given location and lack of competition. They obviously have a poor rep locally given the comments we had both before and after and lack of surprise it was that bad.More
