Went for breakfast this morning at The Black Boys with my husband. The staff were very friendly, great atmosphere and the breakfast was amazing, compliments to the chef. We will be back x
Excellent town centre pub with fabulous food, vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. Went for a 21st birthday celebration and couldn't have chosen better. The quality of the food was very high, choice of ales very good and the atmosphere was great. Couldn't fault anything.
We visit spixworth every year thisThird time we have been to this great pub the food is Consistently superb. And we will be looking forward to coming back. The service is also second to none.
Had a delicious evening meal on Sunday evening. A varied menu with plenty of choice. The food arrived quickly and was very much enjoyed. There was a lovely buzz and great atmosphere. The staff were efficient and friendly . . . . . and would...not hesitate to eat at The Black Boys again.More
Been several times before, usually very good, but this time was different. My wife ordered half of shandy, and was given a pint of bitter!.she ordered mushrooms and was served whitebait!!. so she had to wait for her lunch while I was eating mine which...was fine apart from steak was tough. The outside door was left open, and a cold wind was blowing in so my wife had to fetch a coat from the car. We were disappointed this time and probably will not be returning.More
We booked an overnight stay with breakfast in the family suite and couldn't fault it. From the very comfortable beds and spacious rooms to the cooked breakfast in the morning with an evening meal as well, the whole experience was wonderful. The staff were all...extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and plentiful and it was completely dog friendly too. Many, many thanks.More
This is how it should be done. If anyone wanting to open a restaurant is reading this, visit this place to learn how to do it in the best way possible. You’ll understand why once you’ve been. I went with my Mum and my Aunt,...28th September, and we had starters, a main, and a side. Across all of the meals the food was perfect. Prawns, Scallops, Salmon, Burger, Steak, Scampi Vegetables, all of it, everything on our plates was commented on as being really well cooked and tasted terrific The atmosphere was loud, but not so loud you couldn’t be heard. It’s a busy pub/restaurant, but not rowdy or overbearing. Just groups of people minding their own business and talking. I saw tables for two and tables for eight, and all co-existed peacefully The staff were quick to the table, always available to answer questions, and food and drinks were brought out as quick as could be hoped for We often go out as a small group, and generally end up trying new places, because the previous place just wasn’t quite right. No more. We all agreed we’d come back here again. And we will do The only observation (definitely not a complaint!) is that the portions are huge. The plates are full. Think what you get in most other restaurants, and then double it. We could all have quite happily just had a starter or a main as our only meal. That said, I think the restaurant is aware of this, as the doggy bags provided are actually quite nice boxes. And we can confirm, that three now well fed labradors also approve of the food 10/10 recommendMore
While staying near Aylsham, Norfolk we had the pleasure to eat at this pub 3 times. The food is consistently good and the portions are very large. Service is quick and there is an extensive menu starting from breakfast until about 8pm. We particularly enjoyed...the Sunday lunch which is served until it runs out. I must mention the giant steak pudding which is heaven on a plate. Although we didnt manage a dessert ( too full) they looked lovely. We will return when next in the area and recommend this pub to others but it may be advantageous to book a table since this pub is also well frequented by locals.More
Short break for our anniversary so booked table for 6.30 not knowing what their menu might contain. Arrived on time and ordered drinks without ice. Well done 'no ice' ........ We prefer good old fashioned meals so the menu leaves us a bit short for...choice but managed to find two items that seemed acceptable to our taste. My wife chose chicken and I went for beef suet pudding. Dinners arrived quite quickly and I must say. I was shocked at the enormous size of the suet pudding (easy enough for two) but it was delicious as was my wife's chicken but what is it about having green beans wrapped in Palma ham. The ham was so hard and almost impossible to eat. Overall the meal was good but why do chefs have to mess about creating strange combinations of basic ingredients. Maybe it's just us!!!! Anyway full marks to the staff for excellent service.More
Went here for a Birthday meal and the food was delicious and good sized portions. Only down side was the rest of the menu looked fantastic so we will have to go back to try the rest of the options! Thank you to the Chefs...and Kitchen staff. Good choice of drinks as well so we were all happy. Service was great despite them being busy ona Friday night so well done to all the staff! Lovely atmosphere in the Pub too and the village is nice to visit. So all in well worth a visit and we will definately be back.More
We've been here before, but not to eat. Owned by the Colchester family. Everyone we've eaten at is always 5 stars. (Our favourite is The Recruiting Sergeant at Horstead.) Between us we had fish and chips, suet pudding, calves' liver and halibut and my husband...had a starter. Large portions and all very tasty. Ale and cider were good. Our doggie was welcomed too. Would definitely go there again. Varied and extensive menu.More
Went for a family lunch to celebrate my mum’s 80th birthday. Have no problems with the service and the staff were pleasant and attentive. Sadly, the food left much to be desired. I’ll start with the fish. Two of our party ordered the cod and...chips which was very oily and full of bones. It left an unpleasant taste in the mouth. Another two in our party ordered the roast beef. Firstly, I don’t believe for a second that this meat had actually been roasted - more probably boiled as there was a thick, soft, greasy skin around the outside, was a strange grey-ish sort of colour and didn’t taste of anything at all. It was served with a “pig in blanket” which turned out to be a hot dog sausage wrapped in bacon. It’s distinctive flavour was impossible to ignore. The veg was ok in the main, apart from the roast potatoes which were meant to be cooked in beef dripping but definitely weren’t and were quite soggy. A bizarre kind of stuffing was also accompanying this but spread around the plate like porridge. We were charged a whopping £7.95 for each medium sized glass of white wine. We decided to skip dessert and also any future visits!More
Visited here for my birthday while staying in the area on a mini break! Was so impressed by the food, service and the portion sizes!!
We went for Sunday Lunch and had a great time. I was impressed with the range of lunches available not just roast meats. There was a lot of locally sourced items on the menu and they were excellently cooked and presented. The staff were helpful...and the service was prompted and well timed, we also appreciated the extra spoons to share the puddings. The portion sizes were generous and not lacking in quality and priced reasonably. Looking forward to a return visit when in the area againMore
