Ate here on New Year’s Day. Wonderful atmosphere of people enjoying quality time with friends and family. The whole experience was 5 star. I ordered the steak pie and it was delicious. I especially enjoyed the dish of four vegetables served with it and the dish of chunky chips. All the meals looked good and the service was attentive and friendly. Looking forward to our next visit to Scarborough.

Visited this amazing gem on the last day of our holiday. As soon as we walked in we were warmly welcomed. The whole Inn is just fabulously decorated with many different rooms but you still feel within the same place. The staff are attentive even the owner came to chat to us and made us feel special. Now for the amazing food. We had scampi starter which was well presented and tasted really fresh, main meals, lambpot, served with fresh vegetables and home cooked chips, this was full of wonderful flavours. Lasagne, again home cooked, straight from the oven served in a hot dish with home cooked chips. The meals were so delicious it was hard to fit a dessert in but it would have been a shame to miss out so ordered lime cheesecake. This was homemade, not to be mistaken for keylime cheesecake, this was something else, the taste of fresh light creamy cheesecake with a hint of limes and a fabulous biscuit base, we are so glad we finished our meal with this delicious dessert. Would suggest you will need to book to eat here as it is so popular, now we know why.

We arrived for our 5.30 table promptly, very clear signage on entry and sanitizer available. We were immediately impressed with the lovely fire creating a welcoming warmth and smell and the beautiful interior. We were shown to our table and our order was taken quickly for drinks while we looked at the menus. My husband chose the Lamb hotpot special and I chose the homemade steak pie. The food arrived quickly accompanied by a selection of vegetables (5 different in total), chips and extra gravy. It was delicious and piping hot. Homemade desserts followed, Summer Crumble with custard and Brandy snap basket served with toffee ice cream (the nicest ice cream!). Overall a lovely meal, prompt service for both food and drinks, we will definitely be back.

The Sunday before Christmas so where to go for lunch? The Bryherstones of course, and it didn't disappoint. Two roast beef lunches and the beef and ale pie along with a shared sweet really hit the spot. Mine host Paul ensured a warm welcome and just the right amount of attentive service. For this strangest of christmases the place was decorated with taste and restraint and measures/restrictions were in place but not over bearing. Good luck to all hospitality businesses in these difficult times. Those who have worked so hard over the years to get it just right will hopefully come out of the other end okay. Ian and Mary, Scarborough.

The Bryerstones offers a tour de force in the Sunday lunch experience. What you’ll enjoy here is exactly as Sunday lunch should be: piping hot, fresh-tasting food from a selection of the traditional options. Service is quick and efficient and the boss is always present and will take time to ask if everything’s okay.

This our favourite venue locally, always assured a warm welcome and a fine pint of real ale, a choice between Timothy Taylor’s Landlord for which they have received accolades for its quality and Theakston’s Lightfoot equally as good to take. The food is honest and wholesome, good portions and great value. Ingredients sourced locally, the meat supplied by Radfords of Sleights. There is a good mix of meat and seafood dishes , traditional pub food and specials. The wine list is impressive and offers great value, with the help of the Landlords great knowledge of wine to draw upon we soon selected a lovely bottle of Rose to compliment our meal. I had Whitebait to start and Salmon with a chilli sauce , my wife had homemade soup to start and Whitby Scampi as a main, everything was perfect. It’s a family business with Paul front of house and his wife Sally running the Kitchen, not forgetting their lovely daughter Jessica who is always there with a lovely smile, they lead a small team of lovely staff who are as passionate as the owners. I can’t recommend this place enough, we keep returning anyhow. The staff are well presented, polite and caring & chatty and the service is exemplary .

Having booked in advance and getting drinks and ordering food (2 starters and 5 mains) we were totally forgotten. As people around us got food we were patient but after a reassurance we continued with nothing - as it was strictly table service we were careful. Finally asked again and were told the kitchen was closing. Our order had been taken, they even showed the receipt. One person (owner?) even started to suggest it was our fault. I’m the end the man who took our order apologized and after 2 hours , we left not having eaten with 3 children. Terrible for a business when we are constantly told how businesses must be ‘kept going’. Basic indifference. Avoid.

Hi Paul w , I am very sorry about this huge mistake we made, unfortunately your order got mislaid between the bar and the kitchen ( this is the first time in 11 years) . I did not suggest it was your fault but apologised profusely and didn’t charge for the bottle of wine and drinks, again all I can do is say sorry, yours sincerely, Paul.

Called without reservation, about 5 to 10 minutes before food service began. We ordered straight away, thinking that our food would arrive in good time. After waiting upwards of half an hour, we gave a gentle reminder, and it was evident that our order had been misplaced. It was approximately 50 minutes before our food arrived. The food itself was good and the beer well kept, and not over chilled. The owner apologised profusely for the delay, admitted there had been communication problem between him and kitchen but no reduction in the bill was offered. I think we were probably unlucky. As we are no longer in the area, the question of a return visit does not arise. There is plenty of competition, and you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Bryherstones is truly a country inn, out in the middle of nowher. We received a warm welcome before being shown to our table. The menu has plenty to choose from and there is a specials board also. We both plumped for Sally's Famous Steak Pie, which arrived with the utmost alacrity. Delicious chunks of tender steak in a lovely, light pastry, served with "proper" chips and a delightful selection of vegetables. The waitress arrived to remove our clean plates and proffer the dessert menu. We wanted a little bit of time to let the main meal go down. The lime cheesecake was an excellent choice; light and delicious. However, what appeared to be a fruit coulis, possibly raspberry, zigzagging the surface of the plate, was totally at odds with the lime. Chocolate would have been better and more lime in the cheesecake with a bit of zest for added zing. Having had very leisurely service at our previous two venues, we had planned to stay at Bryherstones a bit longer. It was quite full when we arrived at 7 p.m. but everyone must have dined early and by 9 p.m., we were the only ones left and our taxi wasn't due until 10.15 p.m. We were enjoying the music, though the seating wasn't the most comfortable or a long sit but we were left feeling guilty, keeping the staff from an early finish. We managed to get our taxi to come just before 10 p.m. but it was a long, last hour, particularly when the music was turned off. Lovely food and good drink but eat and leave, as life in the country is quiet and you need transport to get there and back.

My family & I were delighted from the moment we walked in the featured property from 1800’s. The Owner gave us lots of information on the family run business & property he was extremely helpful & friendly. The food was a mix between pub home made cooked food & Michelin restaurant style. The vegetables were locally sourced we could see them freshly grown at the side of the building. Coal warm original fire with homely feel. We ordered pan fried chicken drown in cream’e of mushroom sauce & a caramelised steak burger with golden fountain cheese inside a brioche bun that absolutely was cooked to perfection & melted in your mouth. Not to forget the Home made, hand cut hot crispy triple cooked crispy chips including home made beer battered large onion rings to finish it! Topped off by a home made fudge warm brownie with fresh cream. Me & my family honestly have not stopped recommending this place! Incredible, I honestly can not see how anybody would find anything to ever complain about to be completely honest. Absolutely delightful experience from the moment we stepped foot inside to the second we left. Highly recommended to any foodies, about 17 minute drive from the city centre of Scarborough defiantly worth it! I’ve attached some pictures for others to see the fantastic features of this properly & outstanding food! Will defiantly be retuning again in the near future. Thank you again, Emma

We booked a table but got lost on our way to the pub, the owner was very helpful giving us directions. Once we were seated we ordered our drinks when they were served we said we were ready to order as people arrived our server said he would seat them and return to take our order which he did not, so my partner went to the bar to order our food which was very good as was the wine. Nice place to eat would go again

This place is off the main road and we found it by accident but it was certainly worth the 5 minute detour. We stopped off for lunch. We were fortunately able to sit in the garden, which is in the middle of the country, certainly no busy, noisy roads to worry about. Whilst we chose to sit outside, the place is dog friendly. We both had sandwiches, but they were served really nicely. Loads of filling, chips and salad. The quality of the food was superb. We were pleasantly surprised at the bill - the food was a step above the other pubs in the area, but the price was comparable with others. So we left with the feeling we got more/better value for money. Lastly, it would be remiss not to mention how friendly every single member of staff is. All stopped for a chat and made us feel really welcome. We tend to go back to this area once a year. This was the first time we tried this place, but we will certainly go back next time we're in the area.

We visited during a weekend to Scarborough, booked after reading the reviews on here. Beautiful traditional pub and the staff were very friendly. We liked how the owner/manager mixed with everyone, going out of his way to make you feel welcome. The food was lovely and like the pub very traditional, I can highly recommend Sally's famous Streak pie. Would absolutely go back :-)

We went to this Inn when we were staying in Ravenscar. Nice big car park, one way system in and out. The staff were very welcoming on arrival. Cosy pub with atmosphere. I had the scampi and chips and my wife had the stuffed peppers, both came with chips like you get from a chippy which is a bonus. The owner (?) came over a couple of times to ask if we were ok. Very nice meal out and would recommend if you are in the area.
