The Woodman Inn is a perfect venue for a relaxed afternoon tea baby shower. Having our own separate area meant we had plenty of space to set up. Nothing was too much trouble, allergies were taken care of, the homemade food was delicious and the amount we got was great value for money! Highly recommend! Thank you!

We were looking for somewhere quietly located away from noisy roads, within a fairly short drive of north London for us to recharge the batteries and celebrate our wedding anniversary during this surreal time of COVID-19. At the end of October the Autumn colours are spectacular, and there are plenty of drives and walks away from busy roads. We were given a lovely welcome as soon as we arrived and shown to our room. We were very happy with this, wooden cottage style with our own front door, tucked just behind the pub. We were supplied with three different types of tea as well as coffee and fresh milk in our mini fridge. 2 small bottles of water were very welcome, especially as we are avoiding shops. The bathroom was generously stocked with thick Egyptian towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. And there was a bath! What a treat. The photos of the American Air Force who were billeted her in WW2 were absolutely fantastic. Look out for the wide one, near the kitchen door, of the American airmen sitting on a bomber plane. You would not think the plane could support them all. We had the 398th Bomber burger on both evenings, and shared beer battered Halloumi, (Cyprus meets England in a delicious way), and the freshly cooked chunky chips. My merlot was soft and full bodied, slightly jammy, as it should be. We had two breakfasts here and the full English is presented in a really good wide bowl/dish that had been heated nicely to keep the breakfast warm. Everything was full of flavour and the quality was obvious. It was good to use a teapot again after so many years of not using one. There were lots of small touches here and they were much appreciated by us and I would definitely recommend this pub/B&B, which also has a fireplace that was lit and made it cosy.

Stopped here after a 12 mile walk. I had said to the venue beforehand that there was going to be 15 of us well that number was nearer 30!
Anyway nothing was any bother and the young lady with glasses was very professional and nothing was no problem.
Most of us had ordered food that was very tasty (the chunky chips were the best)and filling and the service was quick and to a high standard.
We will return to this country gem.

Myself and my mum came for lunch after hearing good reviews of the food. We booked a table and chose to sit inside. We were greeted by a polite, friendly girl who showed us to our table and gave us our menus, giving a quick brief of how they are operating during COVID. We both had the 398th bomber burger, although were hoping for a sandwich as advertised on the website yet this didn’t seem to be an option. I can not fault the staff on their precautions - drinks and food left on trays at the end of the table to avoid any close contact worked really well! Food however, was pretty average for the price. After finishing our meal, it took us 10 minutes to get a member of staffs attention to get the bill. We were originally told we should not leave our seats or walk around unless we needed to use the toilets. It felt like we had been forgotten. The same girl eventually showed and gave us our bill, apparently there had been a problem and the tills had gone down - wouldn’t have been a problem if we had been notified there would be a delay! Overall, nice food but we won’t be rushing back.

Thanks so much for leaving your review.
Due to unprecedented numbers of bookings, we have had to trim down the menu on the days that the EOTHO scheme runs (this May be why sandwiches were unavailable at the time of your visit).
The extra lengths that we are going to, to ensure the safety of our staff and customers, can mean that staff are stretched more than usual and we are just asking that customers are a little more patient than usual during this difficult time.
That being said, it sounds as though the communication was not at our usual standard and that would have been a simple solution to the situation.
I will be sure to speak with our staff and remind them of this.
Thanks for visiting and we hope to see you again.

We booked very last minute and were squeezed into their last sitting. We booked for 4 adults in the outdoor area, even though we had 5 additional children with us. (Explained when booking - we were coming from my twin daughters birthday party so didn’t expect the children to want to eat - assumed they would just play) However, on arrival, the children decided they were hungry and staff were so accommodating and added an additional table in the garden area so that they could eat with us despite serving times ending in just 15 mins! Unfortunately (as we were the very last table to order) they had ran out of roast potatoes for our roast dinners but went out of their way to find an alternative that fitted the party - including some extra veg and Yorkshire’s! We loved the food and experience. Thank you! We always have a great experience and the kids loved the play area. We’ll be back again soon! :)

We are thrilled that you and your family enjoyed your visit but sad you didn't get to try our delicious roast potatoes! Be sure to come back for Sunday lunch soon and let me know you're coming via email - I will make sure we add a few extras to your meals this time, to make up for it!

Stuart and Jenna have stepped up during these difficult times to offer a takeaway service covering mains, puddings, kids and drinks to maintain the great service that they offer during normal times. They've gone out of their way to vary the menus and to offer a weekly special. Pick up is timed and very safe. The food, as always is good and well packaged up for the journey home. Ordering is simple and they are very accommodating in changing little things to cater for foibles :). We can't fault their efforts, food and the service that they are providing. Plus, we may maintain social distancing but we are always met with a friendly smile and warm welcome. Well done you two!!

Regardless of what we are all facing right now, the Woodman carries on, still supplying excellent food and service (Albeit, takeaway and no contact)
Contacting, ordering, collecting couldn’t have been easier via email.
Looking forward to open doors again! I see great summer days ahead.
Thanks Jenna & Stuart!

I have never written a single review about any of the many thousands of burgers I have enjoyed over the years but I'm breaking my duck for the Woodman. Within days of lockdown the Woodman had essentials on offer for the locals and a first class takeaway setup (very good fish and chips). During the closed months they haven't wasted a moment, building a covered shelter outside and putting in place very robust Covid safety measures. Anyway...most importantly we went today for a midweek munch and trialled three of the burgers, the chicken, the pork and the massive beef and sauerkraut number. They were genuinely up there with the best me and two of my sons have had and we have eaten pretty much every burger in the UK. The bill was reasonable and the service spot on. Stuart and the team deserve massive credit for creating such a good operation and the fact that it is always busy and bustling speaks volumes. If you haven't been, go immediately.

We haven't been to the Woodman for a few years due to pandemic and decided to go for dinner last week and wished we hadn't bothered. Another pub run by children and food cooked by children. We ordered mussels most of which were dead and I stupidly ate the OK ones and luckily wasn't ill. We ordered a roasted plum tomato salad with feta and there wasn't a single tomato on the plate (seriously) instead it was roasted vegetables and feta. If you run out of tomatoes just tell us. We ordered the dirty fries which were OK but too salty and the chicken wings which were OK. I went in to pay and ask for the mussels and salad to be removed from the bill and the waitress couldn't hear me because the music was too loud - again seriously. Waitress then asked me if it was OK to add 12.5% tip - Ummmmmm no!! If I complain about the food then i don't want to be paying extra for it! Again, pub run by children. So sick of pubs dishing out rubbish food in a time where prices are high and to eat out is an actual luxury. We won't be returning.

We have loved visiting the Woodman in the past and thought it would be a great place to go for some food and a chat while our children played. I booked a table a few days before but when we arrived we were told ‘to sit anywhere we wanted as no table was reserved’. We sat outside next to the play area. Within 10 mins of us being there, the table umbrella had blown over the fence. The waiter didn’t seem worried and didn’t apologise, retrieve it or replace it- we had to. We asked for umbrella bases and were told they didn’t have any. This should be sorted ASAP because it could cause an injury. We spent the whole time grabbing the umbrellas when the wind blew incase it happened again. The children had a great time on the play area and they were offering £1 kids meals when an adult has a main meal which was also fab. The only complaint about the food was that the children's meals came out differently even though they all ordered the same. Two had fries and two had chunky chips, two had gravy poured over them and two had it on the side, two were ordered without peas but came with peas. This doesn’t seem like a big deal but with 4 year olds it is as some didn’t like gravy and some wanted skinny chips etc. The staff were friendly but the young waiter outside was truly useless. I asked him about vegan options and he went to find out but never came back. The vegan options were chips, side salad or a risotto as they were updating their menu that day. When the waiter brought over our food we requested sauces and spoons but he didn’t ever come back and I went to the bar to get them. The manager was aware the waiter was useless and made it very clear he was cross. He tried to make up for the service with kids ice cream included in the £1 and a free drink to ease the long wait to order at the bar which was nice of him. 3 things would make the experience a relaxing one- umbrella bases, consistent presentation of meals and a helpful waiter. Not sure I’ll be back for a while.

We have been here before and its just perfect for kids. We sat outside in torrential rain, but the kids didn't care and used the play equipment.
Its still well on top of covid with one way systems, hand sanitiser and soxially distanced service.
We had a large party of 9nperople and all the foor came out together. The kids menu is just right and the steak I had was TO DIE FOR. Perfectly cooked and an excellent fillet.
Perfect place for kids.
Currently participating in the eat out to help out.
A little pricey but that wouldn't stop us returning as we really do like it.
They went the extra mile today and produced a warm scone and clotted cream for me even though it wasn't on the menu!
A lovely lunch time visit.

We booked lunch at The Woodman Inn spontaneously as we were taking out dog to the nearby dog park, and were really pleasantly surprised. The pub itself is really quaint and pretty, with a beautiful front garden where we sat for lunch.
The food was impressive. A nice compact menu, dishes presented beautifully and everything we ordered was really tasty. We would definitely recommend it and will return if we're ever in the area again.

This is the second time I have been to the woodman this year for food. The first was on a Saturday, and the food was excellent, well thought out, and very good value. This time was for a Sunday roast and it was next level! I had the nut roast followed by the American pancakes (all vegan), and my husband had the beef followed by the brownie. We were both so delighted with our food. The desserts were also delicious.
It is rare to find a pub with a great atmosphere, delicious vegan food, who are also very dog friendly. 2 out of 3 is usually all I can hope for, but this place has it all. It is fast becoming my favourite place to spend a weekend!
The little touches make the biggest difference. Water available for dogs, a little plate of dog biscuits brought to the table, and no one batting an eye lid at an excitable puppy learning the ropes of how to be calm and content in a pub.
I cannot recommend the woodman highly enough.

We arrived on our cycles and were delighted with the facilities they have created outside for our comfort during these times. There is a huge garden with spaced out tables and a new shelter with large dining tables, comfortable seating and plenty of circulating air. As there were 14 of us, we ordered our food in advance and everyone was delighted with what they had. Great burgers and pizzas! They have an outside bar and a great kids playground and really have thought of everything.

Our walking group of 17 had lunch here on Thursday. Lots of space both inside and outside (including a covered outdoor space). The service was excellent as was the beer and food. We were able to pre-order the food prior to the walk so it was served within 10 minutes of our return. We will definitely return to this pub.
