We brought our group of 28 members of a Norfolk based walking group to The Sportsman for a group meal on a Wednesday evening in early May. When we were assessing the walks in April 2021 the pub wasn't open due to covid restrictions and...so we booked the event without having been over the threshold. This was of some concern due to the size of the group but we needn't have worried because Sophie and her team did us proud. Having obtained comprehensive pre orders, the meal was provided in a,timely manner and everyone was served promptly. It was of excellent quality and the view from the conservatory was to die for. Every person within the group has remarked to me how much they enjoyed the evening so thank you Sophie for making the evening special for us. Thanks again, Tim on behalf of The Norfolk Wayfarers.More

Great stop over, half way point on the South Downs way, for the bikers out there definitely some bonus points, firstly they have a very safe garage where you can store your bike, secondly good selection of ales behind the bar and then amazing breakfast...to get you on your way. FYI to get back on the trail head to mill lane, I used google maps and it took me to some random field.More

This was an excellent stopover for the South Downs Way. Sophie the owner and hostess was fantastic and made sure we had a great stay. She is lovely. The room was very good and the pub & restaurant fantastic. The breakfast in the morning was...immense and tasted fabulous. We’d highly recommend stopping here if you are doing the walk. If you aren’t doing the walk then just stop over anyhow as you will love the place and the great views from their terrace. Dave & John.More

I booked an overnight room at this inn whilst I was walking the South Downs Way. The inn is just outside the scenic village of Amberley, overlooking marshlands where you can see the wild deer graze ( binoculars are provided). A young couple run the...inn with the landlord acting as chef. The menu does not stray from the usual pub fare but is cooked with flair. The dining area is attractive and the whole pub has been decorated by someone with a good eye. Although not at the fashionable end of the village I recommend you visit for the ambience, decor, food, good ale and good views. You get to meet the locals too…More

We met with friends on Friday evening and had to write and say probably the best crayfish salad and ribeye steak we have had for a long time - perfectly present at Ed and cooked. The two servers were very good and deserve praise. We...haven’t been here for 15 years but will now be back sooner!!! Great value for money - tired of overpriced small portions.More

We have just returned from an exceptionally good meal at the Sportsman. My two friends both had burgers which were excellent and I was fortunate to pick the lamb rump. This was truly exceptional in flavour and beautifully presented. The quality of the meat was...superb and it was expertly cooked by Lee resulting in a beautifully moist, tender and perfectly pink dish. The delicious accompanying jus complemented the meat perfectly and the vegetables tasted fresh and flavoursome. I completed my meal with an equally satisfying desert. Rarely have I enjoyed a meal as much. The pub itself was warm and welcoming and the service outstanding. Pubs like this are hard to find and we will certainly be returning.More

Lovely place, staff really welcoming and food was amazing! We sat in the conservatory which had the most amazing views of the brooks. We’ve been back since , just for a drink and sat in the bar area which has a cozy open fire. Will...definitely visit again, a big thumbs up 👍🏻More
