Whilst the staff were all great and attentive the chef really disappointed us
One of our group is veggie and can’t eat spicy food. The chef refused to cook anything that wasn’t on the menu! The menu was all chilli based for veggies
My own meal , whilst delicious was not worth the money paid. The staff did arrange to bring extra chicken out though

Having been to the Bugle for a Sunday lunch some time ago, as we are now living in Hampshire chose The Bugle as a lunch venue when friends visited from Hertfordshire. We had, as requested a lovely table but what a disappointing Hogget and Wild Boar Salt Beef sandwich. Sort of imagined it to be like a salt beef offering with lots of meat no such luck. Far too much mustard which nearly blew out heads off - sort of went round our heads and down our sinus' and rather than large slices of salt beef or hogget or wild boar we had crumbs of same. Certainly not what we expected.

Lovely winter warming ambience.
The bugle have adhered to the social distancing rules without making you feel that covid is all around you.
The celeriac and white chocolate was a real education of how to mix flavours which compliment each other beautifully
The braised beef was delicious.
We were looked after by the staff, who were informative and constantly aware of keeping the environment clean and socially distanced at all times.

We visited The Bugle to for lunch to celebrate my Mum’s Birthday, all 5 of us were disappointed with our meals which included 2 x burgers, 2 x Tuna steak and steak & chips. The quality of the meat was poor, steak very fatty and gristly, burger meat awful too. Tuna steaks were overly salty and very odd dish in terms of flavours together.
Service was pleasant and the pub itself gorgeous location, but what we really went for was a nice family meal and it was just so disappointing. Even the bread / olives board was bland - white sliced bread that seemed past its best, served with a very strange flavoured butter, which neither tasted of any flavour, or butter. It was £100 for our lunch and we all wished we had gone across the road to the cafe instead.

We often drink at the bugle and saw their new menu and thought we would try it. Despite lovely service unfortunately nothing has changed from the last time we ate there and I left feeling rather hungry still. I dont get why you are required to add on sides when a meal is already £17+ you can get fish and chips or a burger which is sufficient yet if you chose the fish or another 'posh' main it comes out ridiculously small. At the end of the day this is a pub not a high end restaurant. Put some more food on the plate, unfortunately I wont be returning for a meal that costs over £20 each and doesnt even touch the sides!

Hi Lmw1702
Thank you for taking the time to give feedback to us, we are obviously disappointed that the food experience didn't match your expectations.
We appreciate your sentiments around us being a Pub but our aim has always been that whilst we offer accessible options such as the Burger and Fish & Chips for a more hearty meal, we also are striving to deliver food to our customers who want something a bit special by enjoying more intricate dishes that has has been crafted by a Chef with genuine passion for making dishes that look spectacular and taste incredible and in the main the response to this has been very positive.
Granted these may not be the 'biggest' dishes but that is on account to the quality of ingredients and the time and labour that takes in making all food from scratch.
We do know we cannot be all things to everyone so we thank you for giving the menu a try and appreciate the custom in these times greatly.
All the best

After reading the reviews my wife and I decided to have lunch here at the bugle it was a mistake as I forgot that it was eat out to help out the place was packed. Thankfully we had booked, got shown to our table and a menu was placed in front of us. We picked from the limited menu (covid19 excuse) but there were people sitting less than a metre away ( refer to covid19 excuse) I ordered a rib eye steak 🥩 my wife ordered sea bass. Big plates little food, the steak was cooked as I asked for although it was meant to be 6oz at £14 10oz.at £24 it did not look like a 6oz. steak some chips an excuse for shallot an garlic sauce and a handful of water cress. My wife's sea bass was very decorative, very tasty, very small. I had to give my wife some of my chips and we both left hungry. This is what you may expect at top class London restaurants not in Hamble.

I really like The Bugle, we’ve often stopped off here for a lads drinking session across the water. This time I was here with family. The staff were really nice and they also have craft beer which gives this a higher score. The food looks absolutely incredible and I will come back to try and taste the delights.
The reason for the lower score however is purely due to the poor service. As I said, the staff were really nice, unfortunately however the service was SLOW! I was told it was table service at 2.45pm and I asked if I could place an order. We waited until 3.05pm for someone to arrive at our outside table to take the order, despite the bar lady asking her team who’s taking the orders outside, some 15 minutes earlier. We then waited for a further 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive (a glass of wine, craft beer, latte, apple juice and two smoothies prepackaged). I had to go in to ask where my drinks were and if I could take the tray out myself. The lovely bar lady kindly brought them to our table immediately. One of the managers spent most of the time looking at his iPad which I can only assume was an ordering Epos style system.
I’d have appreciated less time looking at the iPad and more time worrying about the customers waiting for drinks. The other surprising bit was London style prices. £8 for a 175ml Marlborough wine and £6 for the crafty was a bit excessive, especially as I had to basically fight them for the drinks.
In general, food looks awesome! Booze, great selection but expensive - please wake up, I don’t expect to wait 35 minutes to get my drinks… Whilst they had a few patrons it wasn’t busy by any means.

Thank you for your balanced review, it sounds like previous visits have been positive and on this occasion we didn't meet the grade which is disappointing as wait times for drinks should not have been as long as you say. Our other reviews are hopefully more reflective of the usual service and we have been running on smaller team due to recruitment issues, we will look at what training needs to be done with the team on the night in question and will certainly look to improve on the back of your comments so thank you for bringing them to our attention.

A friend recommended the Bugle for a good meal so we wanted to try it for ourselves.
Our visit was not long after lockdown was “loosened” so it was still a little strange to be out and about again.
The team had put in place several Covid procedures to help keep visitors at ease and the team safe. We where asked to wait in a spacious area until someone was able to seat us. We then had to sanitise our hands before going any further. Track and trace was implemented once we where seated.
Contact with staff was kept to a minimum which does take some getting used to. We where asked to take our drinks off the tray and cutlery was delivered just before the food arrived. Sauces where limited as they where all pre portioned tip tree condiments.
We ordered a delicious tuna dish and a burger so that we could share. The burger sounded too good to resist!
Both dishes where delicious and the selection of wines was good.
Would definitely visit again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review The Bugle, it is so valuable to us in these hard, economic times to have you visit us but not only that advocate for us. We are loving the new Chef's menu and so our the customers so I am delighted to hear these dishes being appreciated, they are my Favorite too!
We hope to see you again soon

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch as used to be outstanding. Unfortunately, it has now gone downhill...small portion of pork, luke warm chewy roast potatoes, and no longe an option of cauliflower cheese or broccoli cheese. Very average and wouldn't recommend

Current chef - [hope has gone by now] expect the customers to pay for his or her experiments in very poor food. In July it was excellent and some years ago I still remember the whole dover sole. Sad that it has got to what we ate that Friday.
The Staff were brilliant - they knew it was rubbish food.

Dear Travelote
Thanks for taking the time to write this review, having had a full review of all our customers feedback since we re-opened in July we are very disappointed to read this. We would really like to determine exactly what was wrong with the meal as the new Chef you refer to has been positively received with lots of fantastic feedback. If you would like to be more specific we would welcome an email to info@idealcollection.co.uk.

It was our first time in The Bugle and regretfully it might be our last time.
The food was absolutely disappointing with the fish & chips and fries undercooked (the fish was almost cold and the batter hardly fried) and the linguine too sweet.
And we were not the only disappointed customers on this Saturday evening as we overheard our neighbouring tables also complain (we did not even bother). And all this for London prices (a bottle of very average Malbec for £33).
The only positive point was the absolutely charming 26-year young waitress!

We ate here a few years ago when we were staying in the area. Came back for a few days away. We stayed in a B n B almost next door! We booked an outside table which was lovely as it was a warm sunny evening, there are patio heaters so it would be fine anytime. There was a nice selection on the menu, I chose the honey crispy pork belly, it was one of the nicest pub meals I have had in a long time. The service was good and all the staff friendly and helpful. Can highly recommend this pub for excellent food and a beautiful setting. There is a car park just down the hill by the harbour only a few hundred yards away. It is free between 6pm and 8am.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch, for 11 including two children for a birthday/stroke family reunion.
All was going well until the Sunday roasts were delivered, a mixture of beef and lamb. I seemed to have been forgotten and had to ask twice where my food was. It arrived approximately ten minutes after everyone else’s.
Whilst it tasted good the quantity wasn’t. You cannot disguise small portions simply by putting a giant Yorkshire pudding on top of everything!! At £17 it didn’t offer value for money, as it was more like a £10 lunch at best.
The service was perfunctory especially from what looked like the duty managers (although it was hard to tell from their clothes!)
To their credit my meal was taken off the bill but I wasn’t told this.
Then came the kicker. Three people ordered pudding, two crumble which were nice apparently and I ordered the cheese board. At £13 to say I was disappointed is a vast understatement. The cheddar was bland and tasted like it had been left out, uncovered overnight and there were minuscule portions of Brie and Stilton. A few cheap crackers, some shredded celery, a few bits of apple and a chutney that was tasteless. Being in Hampshire I would have thought they would champion local produce.
I believe that this is an independent operation, but I unfortunately it has less than Greene King standards.
2 out of 10, which is a crying shame considering it’s location. Customer service needs working on, and the chefs need a kick up the rear!!!

Coming out of lockdown and a cloud free warm evening my teenage daughter and my wife and I headed to this beautiful area by the coast.
Once I saw The Bugle, having not been inside for more than 45 years, I just had to take my girls there.
The service from Lucy and Anna was perfect. That rarely found mix between professional, friendly and being interested rather than the bland service one finds so often. As my reviews show I have been lucky to visit some of the World’s best and well known hotels and restaurants, and can assure you, Lucy and Anna, could easily match and surpass the great teams at The Savoy or Casino Square in Monaco.
Even during these crazy times, the menu was really great. We had flat breads butter bean hummus to pick at, followed by crab croquettes. Ellie, my teenage daughter had previously never liked crab, at the Bugle, she ate two of the five balls. Leaving me and my wife just three to share Grrrrr.
Our mains of mixed fish and shellfish platter, fish and chips and steak and fries were brilliant. Really really great.
Our utmost thanks and praise to the chefs.
We will definitely be back and not in 4 decades. Brilliant, well done everyone
