Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely staff and good service but very average food. Limited choice for our vegetarian friend. My salmon was overcooked and burnt underneath. What was supposed to be salad was just a handful of leaves from a bag. We were staying in an Airbnb just yards...away,so if it had been good we would have eaten there again but sadly this won't happenMore

The whole team is warm, friendly and welcoming. The setting is an absolute delight but sadly the food is very disappointing. On three occasions I have brought friends for lunch and on each visit the quality of the food decreased. I have been embarrassed by...the results from the kitchen. 20 minutes to discover that the advertised gammon was not available? A completely tasteless Caesar Salad? A slightly warm and superfluous bread roll dumped in the centre of a dressed crab salad ? The potatoes were fine as was the crab but the salad was flabby and tasted of nothing. As for the desserts — they appeared and tasted to have come straight from a supermarket freezer and the Eaton Mess was small pieces of meringue swamped in awful ‘squirty’ cream and decorated with one whole and one quartered strawberry. I really want to support The Anchor and the new management but sadly I won’t be returning, other than for a drink, until there is a new chef with some flair, imagination and a pride in his/her craft. My thoughts are keep the menu small, simple and well prepared. I apologise for not saying this in person at the time but was too embarrassed and didn’t want to make a fuss in front of friends who had traveled long distances to get here.More

Took my parents here a couple of weeks ago. The staff were quite friendly and welcoming and the place was warm which was good as it was too cold when we visited with the previous owners. I’m afraid the food was tip top prices and...poor quality and presentation. My mother had the Chicken Kiev which just looked so unappealing and bland. The vegetables looked saturated and the potatoes were dry and not prepared properly. It certainly wasn’t worth the price tag of about £18 that was for sure. She’s not a complainer and when you don’t get to go out much no one wants to give feedback at the restaurant. The meals were edible just not top quality. The rest of us had fish and chips which were all small portions and the batter really looked undercooked and potions were so small. The fish was curled which usually means it’s turned under as the fat was too hot to cook in but it still arrived quite anemic in colour. The salad to dress the plate looked limp and lifeless and did the meals no justice. Again this was not worth the price tag. I’ve just eaten in a nearby pub and paid £16.50 for haddock and chips with minted peas which were hearty bits of fish and amazing crispy chips. There is always a competitor nearby and I suggest the manager does some research. There is no menu online which I realise not all restaurants provide. However for visitors from outside of the area it is helpful especially when bringing elderly people or children who have more selective tastes or who just fancy something on the menu. Overall we won’t really rush back unless we knew it has improved.More

Firstly, What a beautiful place to dine..stunning views too! We were a big booking with a few fussy eaters, and nothing was too much for the chef, hats off to him! The food was fresh and hot, the burger was so delicious! Can definitely tell...it’s homemade, the coleslaw was so tasty too. The fish is batter was a beautiful colour, with flaky chunks inside. The atmosphere was great and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating, will definitely be back!!More

I have visited The Anchor on many occasions both under the old management and the new. I have always had a great experience both in terms of menu and service. I particularly like the new decor and new menu. I fail to understand some of...the criticisms raised on this site. If something is not right with your experience, raise the issue at the time and it should be dealt with. Writing vitriol after the event is not helpful.More

Booked a table for a Saturday night dinner. Service was good. Main courses were fantastic. I had a burger, the best I've ever tasted, clearly home made. Also ordered a vegetarian curry which was great plus some sides and starters to make another main. Overall...a great experience, staff accommodated our requests and made us feel at home.More

I regret to say that since under new management the food is a disaster. Had our mains refunded. Revisited the pub just for a drink the other evening, chef off duty and drunk and shouting and swearing. Will think twice before returning.More

The beer is fab and the location is great, but unfortunately the food is overpriced and not great which is unfortunate as it is under new management and I thought the quality would improve with the new management.

Really expected a great Easter Sunday lunch. Totally disappointing. The venue is idyllic and the views over the river Colne beautiful, but the food was a great let down. Vegetables so underdone they were hard to cut with a knife and meat obviously reheated and...overcooked. We were a party of five and not one of us had a good lunch. This is a venue that deserves a better chef.More
