Everything shouts "genuine welcome" - not a gastropub however. Cleanish boots, dogs, wet coats all ok. We had Saturday lunch after a longish walk. Dog slid under table, several good beers, wide menu + specials & veggie. We stopped after 2 courses - full up. Reasonable...More

My wife and I went here to meet friends for Sunday lunch. The bar has an impressive range of real ales from many different breweries. There were two large open log fires making a very warm welcoming sight. We went with our dog, and indeed...More

Walked to the pub with our dog- very dog friendly and welcoming. Lovely Sunday roast at lunchtime, served quickly, good sized portion and delicious. Very rustic pub with a great atmosphere. On a good day you can sit outside on the green.

I went here for lunch in early August and found the food to be tasty and well presented. The amount of filling in my smoked salmon & cream cheese baguette was excellent-no scrimping- and the chips were delicious. Those who had hot food also enjoyed...More

Several of us arrived on a Thursday lunchtime prior to visiting gardens in the area. Although they seemed to be short staffed the barmaid was amazingly efficient and remained unflustered despite the sudden influx of customers. The pub is very pretty and the gardens were...More

Description
This unspoiled, traditional 16th century Free House is located at the foot of the Chilterns. Ideal for combining a beautiful scenic walk with refreshment. The original low oak beams and large open fire make it a frequent feature in Midsomer Murders and other TV series. There is a spacious garden and seating on the village green from where the steam train of the Chinnor/Prince Risborough private railway can be seen. The pub is CAMRA listed and has a good range of real ales often including Wadworth, Loddon, Tring and Burton Bridge, alongside ever changing local beers. The separate dining room is ideal for private functions.
