Just a few yards from the start of the Pennine Way, this inviting little village pub is the perfect place for a spot of lunch and a refreshing pint. “Dogs and dirty boots welcome”, says a sign on the door but it’s far from a...mud-strewn hostelry. There’s a lot of character and atmosphere, with a log fire in the autumn. It’s closed on Tuesdays but on all other days there’s an all-day food menu which offers lots of variety and there’s a wide selection of beers, including alcohol-free options for those who have driven to this remote village. The chilli con carne was superb. Friendly staff, quick service and value for money. Two pints and two main courses £35.More
