Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just a few yards from the start of the Pennine Way, this inviting little village pub is the perfect place for a spot of lunch and a refreshing pint. “Dogs and dirty boots welcome”, says a sign on the door but it’s far from a...mud-strewn hostelry. There’s a lot of character and atmosphere, with a log fire in the autumn. It’s closed on Tuesdays but on all other days there’s an all-day food menu which offers lots of variety and there’s a wide selection of beers, including alcohol-free options for those who have driven to this remote village. The chilli con carne was superb. Friendly staff, quick service and value for money. Two pints and two main courses £35.More

I hadn’t visited for about 25 years - walking in with wet boots felt just how it did all those years ago. Friendly service and a cracking pint of real ale

I was on a recent walking trip with 16 other people and we went to the Olde Nags Head on Friday and Saturday evenings. The food was great (and lots of it) as was the beer and they were quite happy to let us sit...in our own area and sing songs all evening. They couldn't have made us more welcome (and they even asked us to come back and sing again next year). Full marks to all the team.More

This venue is surprisingly spacious inside. We had lunch on a slightly rainy day and admired the views. The pub is well maintained and offers a god range of food and drink. The walk from the station is not particularly taxing.

When I ordered a pie having hiked 10 miles in the rain - I specifically asked if the gravy - which came with it - could instead be placed on the side. That’s fine the guy said - we’ll put it in a jug. Great...I thought because I hate gravy. The food came. There was gravy in a jug - but also al over the food. This cost nearly £16 - I told the person who served me- I told the person who collected the plates. Oh! We’re very sorry!! Well did they offer me anything else? No! Did they reimburse me? No! I used to love the Nags Head but will avoid in future. Awful - just awful l. And I’m really starving! Oh well the Ramblers Inn is down the road. Their food isn’t great either but gotta be better than thisMore

What a great pub with super helpful staff great non-mass produced beers and ciders and a perfect Sunday dinner. Everyone was very accommodating from the guy giving me the WiFi password when I wasn't even in the pub prior to a walk (there is zero...phone or data reception in the town!), To the serving staff, chef and everyone else The cider was amazing and Sunday dinner plentiful, tasty and good value They even put the football on and some commentary too! Shame about the result Will return. Worth mentioning that there is a very big outdoor area tooMore

Below average food, chips soft, cold and whiter than a Scotsman’s knees, lasagne been sitting under the hot plate for far too long and all just tasteless. A shame really as nice welcome behind the bar and decent choice of beers. Maybe chefs day off...and being covered by auntie Mabel from the local WI.More

Fish, chips and peas. REAL chips, not something you see very often, and they were chunky and crispy. Light beer batter on the fish (whale like in size) which was also very crispy and light yellow in colour. A few pints of draft IPA to...assist in the digestion of aforementioned food and we were very happy. A double bonus that this was one of the four days this summer that the sun shone and we were able to enjoy lunch in the beer garden.More

Popped into the pub a couple of times during the weekend as we were staying a the campsite nearby. The pub was busy both evenings but service was quick. Menu looked good and when food started to emerge out of the kitchen it persuaded us...to order food. So glad we did. The food was lovely and plentiful. Overall the pub is brilliant, great atmosphere created by the friendly, professional staff. Can't wait to returnMore

This place is so cool! The bar staff are absolutely fantastic, super friendly and welcoming. The pub itself has so much character and is absolutely huge! Dog friendly and a perfect spot for walkers. I didn’t eat personally but others in the group did and...said it was delicious. If you’re passing here, make a point of stopping by for a quick one (or few)!More
