Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Location and staff are 5 star, but unfortunately the food is not. The Sunday lunch starters were very good and we thought we were in for a treat. The main course was disappointing, it could be hotter, lukewarm is not good, the beef was supposed...to be Wagu, it may be, but it was tasteless a sprinkled of sea salt would have gone a miss. Sea bass , this was one tiny fillet, not enough for the price. Dessert sticky toffee pudding at £15, for the portion again not value for money. As previously stated the location and staff are exemplary but it’s not worth the extra cost, let down by the food.More

These wonderful people made us feel like family! No wait, like royalty! The food was absolutely amazing and the rooms beautiful but what made it so wonderful and unique was the amazing staff! From Zoey, Carlos, Josh and Georgia I give a huge thank you...for making this trip sincerely unforgettable and special! You’re an example of how to treat people because of your kindness! Thank you again and again!More

Lovely venue and very good food. The service however was very dull and there was no atmosphere. It certainly didn’t live up to expectations

We came to the restaurant for brunch, the food and service were both excellent. Such friendly staff look after you to the highest standard. The eggs royale were particularly delicious! Thank you very much- Lilly

Came here for mother’s day lunch with our little shih tzu theo! Everyone was so polite and made a fuss of us all (more so theo 😂). Food was excellent, everything cooked to perfection. Thank you to Alistair, Zoe, Elliot, Carlos and Adam for making...mother’s day so special. As i’ve said before… we will be back soon! 🥰More

Booked Rafters to celebrate my wife's birthday with our two young children (6yo/9yo). We would count ourselves as proper foodies and enjoy a fine dining place as a treat. I was looking for somewhere special, but that would be suitable given we were travelling with...children. The food was outstanding. Whilst all of the dishes were of the highest quality I would rate my roast dinner as the best I have ever eaten. The food was presented really lovely, and the dishes all had a unique touch and extra special flavour. The service was friendly and prompt. The children were accommodated with a children's menu. My only regret? Not encouraging them harder to select the roast dinner too! The only real improvement would have been some form of starter menu for the children so that they were occupied whilst we were eating every course. Highly recommended; will be looking up the cookbook and hopefully returning again in the future.More

Outstanding. Superb. Superlative food which excites all 5 tastes. Sweet, salty, sour, (minimal bittter) and umami. The service is top class. Georgia and Josh and Alastair and all the staff were great. The zero five recommendation was wonder. All our requests were met with cheerfulness....The snacks are a lovely start. The starter hot pocket was generous. The lamb done just slightly more than pink was delightful. Every single accompaniment was top notch and tasty. The rhubarb dessert, a work of art. What a thoughtful touch with the Bakewell tarts on the Americano coffee. Then trying to light the fire. Nothing too much trouble. A memorable meal and we will be back. MmMore

The plus was undoubtedly the staff who were polite, efficient, highly attentive. The room was ok but a soft mattress never helps me personally. Breakfast was very very good, but the wifi was shocking, and the bathroom quite cramped.

We were two couples there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We ordered cocktails on arrival. We were also asked for our wine order before we had even seen the food menu. We enjoyed the food we ordered although we did feel rushed throughout the evening....A little more attention to noticing when wine needs pouring. When paying those sort of prices I think it’s fair to expect the staff to notice the small details.More

A gorgeous festive poochfriendy stay again at the Rafters at Riverside House. Such a special hotel, the food, drinks, décor and location just stunning. The staff are truly wonderful and you feel right at home! Isla received a royal welcome as always, with a welcome...pack on arrival, treats from the staff and sausage for breakfast! The Festive Afternoon Tea was INCREDIBLE! I will dream of the Cheddar & Sage scone forever! We enjoyed two flights of Festive treats – The Savoury and then The Sweet with a bottle of Champagne and a selection of tea’s. The Mince Pie Macaron and the Coronation Turkey Turnover were UNREAL! Breakfast was super delicious as always! The best eggs royale you will ever eat! Special thanks to Elliott, Zoe, Georgia, Jamie and Tom. Can’t wait to see you again soon!More

This was our second visit having been earlier in the year and been blown away by the food so we returned for an overnight stay with friends. The place itself is lovely, really cosy and the perfect venue for a cold winter night. The room...was excellent, can’t fault it at all and had everything you would need for a relaxing break. The staff are really friendly and helpful and finally breakfast was absolutely yummy and plentiful. Unfortunately the evening meal in the restaurant didn’t live up to expectations and was well below the standard from our last visit. Don’t get me wrong it was still nice but a bit lacking in flavour and the main was way too salty. Don’t get me wrong this is a lovely place and we would probably come back but I don’t agree with the comments that it’s deserving of a star. We ate at a one star restaurant in London last weekend and Rafters doesn’t compare food wise. In every other way it definitely does. Obviously just my opinion and I’ll be happy to be proved wrong next time 🙂More
