Overall disappointing 3 course meal. Had the queen scallops and duck pancakes to start with. The portions were small, they were nice enough, but nothing special.
Main course was small fish and chips and fish pie. The fish and chips was a decent size considering...it was the small portion and again nice enough but nothing over and above - typical 'pub grub'. The fish pie was small but generously filled with fish and prawns and it was tasty. It was let down by the side salad it came with. Well I say salad, it was more of a pile of leaves with a dressing, no cucumber, tomato etc. The leaves were definitely past their best and sat wilting and a bit slimy on the plate. I'd have much preferred it served with some nice veg - carrots and/or broccoli.
As overall the portions were on the small side we had room for dessert and ordered a sticky toffee pudding and the eton mess. I think they forgot our order to be honest, we must have waited half an hour and people who had ordered after us were served before us. In the end we had to ask where they were. The sticky toffee was a nice flavour but spoilt by being really dry and the ice cream was well melted. The eton mess was disgusting, really sour, with warm melted cream and only one tiny piece of meringue. We weren't charged for the desserts because we didn't eat them, but would've preferred to have had a nice one and paid.
The restaurant is nice and cosy inside with wooden beams and has a bit of a Christmassy feel with fairy lights and pine and cones around the bar. We were considering booking for a big family meal over Christmas, but sadly we won't be rushing back, as there are other places in the area with nicer food.More
