A great first visit

Our first visit to the Lazy Trout - and we will certainly be back! The staff were, without exception, both cheerful and charming. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the food (which arrived very promptly) was delicious, as well as being sensibly priced. Also, a good selection of beers on the bar. To top it off, no “discretionary” service charge added to the bill, leaving the customer to reward great service (which it was) appropriately.

Absolute gem of a pub!

We were here on Saturday 8th March as we were enjoying a weekend away for my mum’s 80th birthday. I pre- booked the table (as there were 9 of us) and secretly took the cake / decorations etc down in the afternoon. We arrived at 7pm and the staff (although incredibly busy) had decorated all the table for us! 😃😃 Our food arrived quickly and was very good indeed, the portions are very generous for the price but we all polished off our meals and everyone was happy. Great selection of ales / ciders too! Staff were great, location is great and the whole experience was positive Highly recommend, great pub

Lovely Family Evening

We alway love visiting here for food but last night was exceptional. The service, food & drinks all excellent. We visited for a Father’s Day treat with a table of 8. Drinks were quickly server and just the right amount of time allowed to make food choices. Plenty of choice for food and drinks to suit the whole family. The food arrived around 25mins after ordering. All the food was perfectly presented and tasted lovely and fresh. One of the steaks was tough but the staff were apologetic and sorted this out for us. Everyone had a different dessert and each one was delicious and again - they must be home made as the brownie was mouthwatering. I believe it’s hard to find a good pub that is reasonable priced with great service, food, drink and atmosphere but the Lazy Trout has it all.

Poor and rude service

Disgusting service stopped off for a summers evening drink there was clearly at least 6 tables outside free! Politely waited whilst 2 members of staff stood chatting when the female staff finally acknowledged me I asked if there was a table for 2. She was very rude and said they NO they were at maximum capacity and the kitchen was fully booked! I then walked away as felt quite belittled by her tone. When I then decided to ask if that was for drinks she said oh drinks well yeah in a snotty tone! Forget I’d rather give my custom to someone else! Sorry to inteterup your chit chat!!!

Nice food and place , One issue though

Nice food and place , One issue though this being the night would of been perfect had it not been for the rushed feel we had. Service was too rushed . Gave us lije 1 minute before coming over to ask.us what we wanted, And after ever course the staff literally came in when the last fork hit the finished plate. Apart from this it was great. Guys don't rush people it makes them feel like you want them out and not a good experience for the dinner.

Disappointing meal and service

We’ve been meaning to visit here for a while and decided to try it today It was busy which we expected on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. We sat in the bar area which was okay to start with until a minibus of tourists turned up and swamped the bar area whilst we were eating. We had chicken skewers starter which was nice but not great followed by 2 roast beef dinners The beef was tasty but not tender and the vegetables were quite hard still They needed more cooking especially the carrots and swede/ turnip Gravy was too runny. The roast potatoes and mash were very good and nice Yorkshire pudding We definitely wouldn’t return for a roast again it just wasn’t that good The bar staff were really miserable I didn’t see one smile from either of them during all our visit. No please or thank you either. When the tourists came in they had to wait a long time to be served and the woman serving wasn’t very accommodating and as said earlier just really miserable The waiting staff were only a slight improvement some were pleasant some a bit rude and again no smile Got the overall impression that most of the staff were very unhappy.

A truly great lunch

We enjoyed a great Lunch in the outdoor seating area which is dog friendly so our pooch was very happy. We ordered starters and mains and we were not disappointed. In particular my son and I had the kfc burger, glorious in its own right but the chips with it were sublime. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the lasagne and again the fantastic chips. We couldn’t fit a pudding in as we were all full to bursting. The service was excellent too. The staff were very attentive and we wanted for nothing. A fantastic experience, thank you

Nice pub

Booked Sunday lunch here with my sister and partner. Arrived early and was shown to our table. Drinks ordered and a short wait later food choices taken. Meals were served, roast lamb and roast beef. Food was presented well but lacked flavour for me, service up to this point was ok. Mains were cleared and this is where the service became non existent. We were offered desert menus but didn’t receive them until we asked 15minutes later. No one came back to take our order until we asked a member of staff. Deserts came my sister’s brownie came and looked amazing, the sticky toffee pudding however was contaminated and tasted strongly of garlic the waitress was apologetic and removed them from the bill. This is a really nice pub but I would t rush back based on this experience.

A great country pub with terrific food!

This is a first class country pub offering an excellent range of beers, a nice menu with classic pub fare, a warm welcome and a lively buzzing lunch time atmosphere. We were a (mature) family group of five who enjoyed an excellent wholesome lunch with friendly helpful service and great food. We shared a couple of starters to get the meal underway having been advised by one of our party who had visited before that the main course meals would be substantial (unlike many modern restaurants) and sure enough they were! I had an absolutely delicious home made steak and ale pie, others had for example superb fish and chips, and I had an exquisite rhubarb crumble with custard for pudding. All examples of typical ‘pub grub’ but all of tip-top quality. A thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience was enjoyed by all! We shall return!

A great pub. Lots of local & regular customers which is always a good sign, one of the best menus I have seen in long time with plenty of choice and veggie options appealing enough to tempt confirmed carnivores. A great choice of beers, ciders and wines too with good service to complete a very enjoyable meal. We will be back!

Good experience over 3 visits

For a family gathering (6 adults aged 60s to 90s) and staying within walking distance we had a total of 16 adult meals here over 3 consecutive nights. There were no problems with any of them. Personally I enjoyed the salmon teriyaki, swordfish, and a steak. The steak was medium rare, as requested. A companion requested and received a steak cooked medium well. The prices are reasonable and the service efficient and pleasant. The restaurant was almost full each evening, it is advisable to book

Impressive

First time visiting, was really impressed, a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, staff were professional, polite and happy to advise with dietary requirements. Good choice of food, quick service. Food was beautiful, well cooked and presented lovely, had a slight issue with dessert but staff were very quick to rectify and apologetic ( even though it didn’t need apologies). Will be returning in a few weeks to sample the Sunday lunch… can’t wait…

Wonder experience

This is a wonderful venue and this is our fifth time of going here. They have a wonderful staff who always smile and so willing to help whenever, nothing is ever too much trouble. As always, the food is excellent and the attention to detail is perfect that’s why we love coming back here. We rate the Lazy Trout so highly and I know you won’t be disappointed when you do go .

Hit and Miss!

I went in March and had the best vegetable lasagne I've ever had. It was amazing! The garlic bread was lovely too. Could have had more and larger chips, as they were like chippings they were so tiny and not many of them, but they were nice enough. Couldn't wait to go back! My friend ordered the fish and she said it was massive and the nicest fish she'd ever eaten. Went back and of course, I had to order the same again. However it was completely different this time. The vegetable lasagne wasn't half as tasty, in fact it all tasted the same/a greasy taste and was just bang average. My garlic bread was like a giant, hard door stop and I had 1 bite and simply couldn't eat it. The chips were the same as last time. Would not go back again for this meal. Likewise, my friend said her fish wasn't half as nice as the one she'd had there previously. Neither of us were impressed at 2 bang average meals. I might go back hoping for another meal like the 1st time, but would never go back if going off my 2nd meal. I presume this is down to different chefs? Different suppliers? I don't know. But there was a massive variation in quality and taste, for the same meals. Not sure I'd go back now, as there doesn't seem to be consistency in the quality.

Lovely Experience

Visited the Lazy Trout whilst staying in the area for a wedding. I booked a table for the 2 of us about 3 days prior. No answer to ringing so listened to the voicemail announcement to either leave a message to book/ call back option or visit the website. Booking online was very simple. Arrived 5 mins before. Ordered at the bar, a wide selection on beers/guest ales, and was led to out table. The restaurant was busy but not full. Clearly a very busy atmosphere gave life to the place. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Ample room on the car park also. I have the chicken skewers as a starter whist my wife had chicken liver pate. I also ordered the olive of the side order/nibbles menu. Mains ordered were King Prawn Linguine, and Chicken with pepper corn sauce. Deserts Apple and Rhubarb crumble with custarand ice cream. All food was delicious, served promptly with a smile. I paid the bill at the bar, leaving a well deserved tip. I also asked if we could take some ice back with me as we had forgotten to stick up in our caravan to go with bedtime mixer drinks. They gave me a large pre packed bag of ice. Nothing was too much trouble. A very well run restaurant whicj I will definately recommend and return. Thank you so much Lazy Trout staff!
