Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Social club outing pre Christmas. About 12 people so we had to have a banquet and ordered the drinks package for everyone $75 per person. Immediately the waiter informed us he wouldn’t be refilling glasses until they were empty and the bottles were kept well...away from the table. We felt like teenagers who couldn’t be trusted not to over indulge. We were a corporate older business group. When you wanted another drink the waiter was never there to pour your drink. A selection of 1 white wine, 1 pink sparkling and 1 craft beer. Then there’s the food - limited at best. Only 2 meats, burnt chicken wings that were too salty and a lamb dish that was tough. Some strange potato dish I could hardly get my knife through. Most of the food was bland with hardly any flavour. To top off the night we were told at 8.45 we would have to leave by 9 because we were seated outside and the neighbours complain about the noise! Not a successful enjoyable night.More

Very disappointed. Food was not good. Too much salt, muscles that were just shells, garlic prawns that had a hint of garlic, lamb with a mushy tasteless goop, expensive wine and food with children's Furniture. One of the worst experiences in Sydney I have ever...had. Some staff were awesome but that is where it ended.More

Didn’t do it for me. I found it overpriced for basic meals that lacked flavour, $11 for a can of beer cmon. It sounds like it was all about the price but the meal was average at best, nothing wrong with it but it didn’t...have the wow factor about it for me. You go judge and reviewMore

We had a great lunch...really interesting and tasty food along with excellent service from the young waitress who was very knowledgeable about the food and wine and gave that little bit extra. It was busy but not too loud and food came at the right...time. highly recommendedMore

No expectations about the restaurant and it took us 10 minutes to get around the idea that the mains were all for sharing. So with the 6 of us it made a great and very delightful smorgasbord of tastes. Will be back with friends.

For the price point this was spot on. We arrived at the very beginning of service and the restaurant was basically empty, so the service was very prompt and the whole experience was great. The food was easily worthy of the price point. It was...unique, fresh and quite fulfilling. Put this one on your list.More

This was my second visit. I experienced rude and arrogant service the first time but figured it was a bad day rather than the general rule. I took my mother in law and family there and was so embarrassed by the appalling service. And then...the wine was awful. I know a little about wine and the Brackenwood Pinot Noir was off. They clearly didn’t care nor have the expertise to want to do anything about it. And finally we were incorrectly charged, I wasn’t offered a receipt and when I queried it I was looked at like an idiot, and I was told it was my mother in law’s fault. I didn’t want to make a scene but I would take your money elsewhere where you will be appreciated for your custom and respected a a human.More

Been wanting to come here for years but wanted to do it with a group, so glad I was able to gather 6 other diners to come with me. Staff were pretty attentive and friendly. The banquet & drinks menus were handed to us on...arrival & we were given enough time to decide, they were pretty efficient with handing us meals & drinks as we went, and each time we asked staff for something they were glad to assist. We had one vegan at the table, and one diner who did not eat seafood, and staff accommodated each of us nicely. In fact, 2 of the banquet meals were vegan & honestly I'd say they were pretty tasty. Every meal has subtle yet exceptional flavours in one way or another, and it was handy to have cutlery on each plate so we could serve ourselves the portions we wanted. I've been to another banquet style restaurant in Newtown where we were all given individual plates rather than shared plates which is not ideal, so this was much more convenient. The standouts for me were tuna with ginger which was so amazing I could've eaten a whole plate of that on its own, the lamb which was quite tender and the pomegranate and lentils complimented the meat surprisingly well, and the dessert which was homemade trifle which was decadent. Definitely worth the experience, and they do take the Service NSW Dine & Discover vouchers up until June, so that $25 discount really does help.More

A Saturday catch up with a dear friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time saw me faced with picking somewhere to eat. I hadn’t ventured onto King Street Newtown’s dining scene in some time and took to google for inspiration. Bloodwood popped onto...my screen and seeing some very positive reviews I made a booking. When we arrived I was chuffed to discover that my friend had dined at the location a number of times before and he assured me that the food and service were top notch. We were greeted by super friendly staff who ensured all COVID safe precautions were followed before showing us to our table. We were sat on the upper lever just near the outside terrace. The decor is fresh and inviting with exposed brickwork and subdued colours making for an intimate and refined ambiance. Tableware is modern and funky but not at all lacking in quality Having booked a table for 2pm my dining partner and I were looking to have a loooong relaxed, and slightly boozy, lunch. Bloodwood certainly delivered with their banquet menu ensuring a flow of dishes to delight the palette. Needing to satisfy the boozy component of our get together we added the drinks package to our banquets. Be warned this is not your traditional matched wines where you get a small splash of wine with each course, this is a choice of their premium beer, champagne, white or red wine which flows continuously and with a heavier hand when it come to the pour!! This is not a drive home after your meal arrangement so please drink responsibly! The banquet starts with some hors d’oeuvre style plates including their stand out pecan pâté which you would never think was purely plant based! Delicious!! The housemade offerings of focaccia bread and pickles were also fantastic. What could well be Bloodwoods signature offering came next... the Polenta wedges with Gorgonzola dipping sauce are mouth wateringly crispy and amazing on their own or with the creamy dipping sauce. Although not on the menu our amazing and super friendly hosts treated us with a scallop which was cooked perfectly and covered in a very tasty garlic and Bloody Mary sauce that really packed a punch. The roasted pear and lentils followed and what a flavour combination they made. This was a plate that went back to the kitchen almost licked clean. I’m not a big chickpeas and lentils kind of guy but this dish was just so perfectly balanced both in flavours and textures. The meals then move into more robust and hearty offerings including a chicken, seafood and a lamb dish. These all had great individual flavours and were cooked to perfection. Last but not least was an old school favourite done with modern flair and finesse. Every grandmothers signature dish the humble trifle takes on a level of refinement with bloodwood’s take on this comfort dish. The combination of custard, rhubarb and mascarpone was a sweet treat that topped our meal off perfectly. I’m not sure if it was catching up with and old friend or the meal or the combination of both but we left the restaurant about four hours after we arrived!! Mission accomplished!!! Looong lunch and a slightly drunk train ride home all ticked off the to do list!! Bloodwood is definitely worth heading to for some great food and sensational service. The value for money is really good and you won’t be disappointed. 😀More

Visited with a friend. Share plates so we ordered pecan pate, cheese bread and curry cauliflower. Every dish was delicious and the service was amazing - the staff brief each other so the service is seamless. They can serve fast if you have a show...too. Recommend for a fancy lunch in Newtown.More

The two fried dishes had mountains of interesting strongly-flavoured stuff on them, like wasabi and furikake on the pork nuggets and definitely something more than the chilli and shallots on the chicken (something vinegary for sure). I love strong flavours but here it seemed to...be used to cover up a substandard base. The shredded pork in the nuggets was dry and tasteless (actually reminded me of tinned tuna) while the chicken had a lot of chewy bits and things that I kept grinding on that might not have been broken bones. The trifle was the exception, there they combined good ingredients, strong flavours, and a reasonable price.More
