Been here a few times Not one of my favourites It lacks the warmth and atmosphere of its neighbours When I've been in it looks tired and in need of a facelift It is however in an ideal location on the canal and near the railway station

.......and not only is it very unusual to find a real traditional pub these days it is even more unusual to find one in a prime spot. Yup it's a bit tatty - you'd probably want to blame the brewery for that - but the staff are unpretentious, the licensees very genuine and friendly, the punters friendly and the Sunday... More

For as long as I can remember this has been a pub you walk past on your way down the canal to better places to eat and drink. Yet it occupies the prime spot in Berkhamsted, can be seen from the train and promises much given its waterside spot and pleasant exterior. Can't decide whether it's a drinker's local in... More

One of the best Sunday lunches We have had in this quaint pub on the canal in Berkhamsted. Excellent value for money, excellent food. Can't be beaten on quality and value for money

Every year we go to this pub, its on the canal side but not in the busy part of town, and we are always pleased to find it still open. Staff are always friendly and you can sit by the canal and watch the world go by.

The pub looks tired on the inside. Chipped walls, old carpet, old fashioned equipment and used children's board games on a corner shelf. Pub connected with the restaurant which makes it hard for staff to be organised. Customers in the pub were forced to wait as priority was given to the other room. We were told that the restaurant was... More

I'm not sure I want to tell people about the Crytstal Palace Sunday Lunch. I think I should keep this gem to myself. But that would be selfish so here goes. My partner and I love the Sunday Lunch carvery here. Great choice of meats and vegetables and all the trimmings. Landlord and Landlady just wonderful people who look after... More

We went for lunch and found it to be rather stodgy and the vegetables lack-luster. The staff members were helpful but I wouldn't eat there again. Quite expensive for the offerings when compared with Toby Carvery.

Popped in for a quick drink while staying at our friends place, a laugh a minute there after, there was a lot of the boaty "bargies" community there, had a laugh and a yarn, slowly but surely people started departing to their homes... and we were left with the awesome Lucy.... don't think she will forget the Aussie/Kiwi combination of... From the outside this pub looks run down and certainly would benefit from some refurbishment. It is in a nice spot and the outside seating on the tow path makes for pleasant surroundings. Has a limited choice of Ales - but well kept. An ok place if in area - but there are nicer.
