Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped here for lunch outstanding fresh sandwiches and as for the chips wow hand cut chip shop style to die for. Great selections of ales and beers. They welcome dogs, with a great outside area as well./ Top job…❤️❤️❤️

The food here isn't bad, it's just nothing special. I've certainly had better for less. There's no menu online. When we arrived it was slightly more expensive than we'd been told. I'd have liked beef but it was described as 'cooked pink'. Since I like...it well done I didn't order it. The Yorkshire Pudding was ok but very crispy. All in all it was ok but I'll not be in a rush to return.More

We have had lunch here on many occasions and really enjoyed it. Sadly the same cannot be said about our experience of dinner. The menu offered no Starters. The Burgers and Steak pies were not available. Overcooked chips and very greasy. The fish was overcooked...so the batter was difficult to cut. The dessert menu was very limited and were nearly all chocolate based. We didn't bother. Nobody came to ask if we were enjoying our meal. We mentioned our thoughts to the bar staff when we paid they just said sorry about that. Very very disappointing experience.More

We ate at The Crown while staying nearby at the Barn Guest House while walking the Coast to Coast Trail. It's a lovely pub. Outside seating area with views over this very pretty village. We had delicious haddock & chips. The pinot grigio and Wainwright...amber were very welcome too.More

Very attractive pub in the village with a large car park which is available for visitors to the adjoining country museum. The fee for the car park is taken off when you go into the pub which we did, and ten of us had an...excellent meal. The food was hot, all came together, and it was all eaten! The pub has a very pleasant atmosphere and personable staff. If we are in the area again we will call in again!More

I now rarely write reviews, sadly it is a reflection of our disappointment that I feel motivated to write this one. Knowing how lovely Hutton Le Hole is, we planned well in advance to dine at The Crown whilst staying in Pickering. The seemingly good...reviews indicated we had made a good choice. The village is lovely, the pub is very nice, sadly the meal was so disappointing, indeed it was very poor. The chips for both meals should never have left the kitchen, they were overcooked, limp and soggy, whilst the steak pie was dry and devoid of any taste or flavours. The meal was served with vegetables swimming in water. We lost heart for a dessert, it was the worst meal of our holiday at above average cost.More

The Crown came highly recommended by a colleague and I initially wanted to book a room there, but they were already full. Jake had no hesitation in recommending the Barn guesthouse next door, which is where we did stay. Nice community spirit! However I did...book dinner for the two nights we were staying and very glad I did. Spacious, yet cosy, very traditional, charming interior. Lots of local beers to choose from as well as wine and soft drinks. We only had main courses, but they were very substantial and beautifully cooked. On the first night I had a delicious (and massive) Chicken Parmo and on the second night an excellent bacon cheeseburger. Jake and staff were all incredibly friendly and very accommodating, thank you all very much, will definitely be back!More

More return visits to The Crown whilst staying in Hutton le Hole again. We had lunch (Crown Double Burger and Scampi & Chips), and an evening meal (Steak Pie and Fish & Chips), and all were excellent. We went to the monthly pub quiz on...Sunday night and were warmly welcomed by all the locals, who also gave our lucky pup George loads of fuss. The Crown is a great village pub with fab food and friendly service from Jake and his team, and we are looking forward to being back in September when we next stay in the village.More

A charming old pub in the middle of a quaint, gorgeous village in Yorkshire between York and Whitby, The Crown was empty when we arrived in the early afternoon. They had a selection of bitters and cask ales. I had a piny of Wainwright and...my wife a half shandy. The staff were very friendly. There was a fire blazing and we accessed their wifi as there was no cellular reception in the area while we enjoyed our drinks. We did not eat, but the menu looked nice although the prices were a bit steep for such an isolated location. They also have three double rooms that are ridiculously expensive, running between £200 and £220 per night in mid-February. The village is quiet and absolutely beautiful with old rock buildings and cottages as well as a creek running from the old church at the top of the hill through the small valley that surrounds Hutton-le-Hole. We visited The Crown for Sunday lunch and had a delicious roast, the beef was tasty and tender and the Yorkshire as massive as other reviewers have suggested. We had our dog with us, she’s not a great fan of pubs but we were kindly...given a nice table where we could keep her out of the way. The beer was spot on as was everything else about the pub. I’m sure we’ll be back next time we’re in the area!More

From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left everything was superb. The staff are excellent, the surroundings are great, the beer/cider selection is very good but absolutely the best of all is the food. Steak pie and chips, sausage and...mash, veg and filo pie…..all of them were superb. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone else.More

Yes there were dogs everywhere - which was a definite minus for us as we really dislike dogs in eating areas!
