Went here on the strength of the LP who give it a great rap but could not see why. Dark and grimy inside and definitely not "snazzy". Didn't feel inclined to eat anything in here no matter how cheap it might have been. Skip it.

Each pastry here cost less than 20p and a few of them were perfectly fine for lunch as we passed through Matara on our way from Kirinda to Bentota. Sausage rolls were the best ones I tried. Staff were also very accommodating of a nut...More

One of the oldest remaining bakeries in the city. good food. clean. but unfortunately i thnk this place will close soon, due to the fierce competition from new bakeries. the building itself is a very old one.

This restaurant is at this location for more than 50 years. This is one of few places you can get good and safe food in Matara. No health problems reported with their food during many years I visited. They make nice short-eats in morning and...More

The building looks nice from outside and much grander than what it actually is. This is just a normal Sri Lankan bakery, with Nescafé and a quite limited selection of food.

I'm not being really fair giving this restaurant three stars as all I did was have a cup of Nescafe coffee there so I'm really just going to pass on what I observed. The coffe was 50 rupees but served in a cup and saucer,...More

Description
This bakery is mentioned in Lonely Planets. The buns, patties and cakes are too good. The tea is superb and the cold drinks are ice cold. It is an excellent stop for travellers moving on to the mountain area from here as they can easily get some stuffed packed for the journey as there are no good restaurants on the Tissa Ella Road . We stocked up a lot of bakery products and cold drinks for our journey and saved a lot of money and hassle.
