About
The building is an attractive traditional Grade II listed brick built property built 1837, and lies within a conservation area. The property is divided into areas with distinct characteristics to provide luxurious and intimate areas, as well as more open areas for larger functions. All rooms have been dressed with traditional Thai furnishings, exotic foliage, and have retained some of the properties original period features such as high ceilings and covings. The restaurant also has a large garden which has been enhanced with palms.

We visited on a Sunday night where we were staying at a nearby hotel. There was a Covid screening check incl temperature and other safety measures were evident. The people serving were very accommodating and the food was excellent and fairly priced with a choice of either Thai or Indian cuisine. If in the area again, I would go back for sure.

Monday evening in August and government incentive to eat out created mayhem. Fortunately we booked for 18.30. By 19.00 people were queuing through the carpark. Service was very slow as the staff were overwhelmed by the queues. Having said that, the food was lovely and the staff kept their poise and continued with the polite and happy service as always. Not the cheapest but amongst the best.

What a romantic setting. We were squeezed in as we didn’t have a reservation. We were seated in the garden, the setting was beautiful. The service was excellent and very attentive without being invasive. The food was superb. We had a mixed starter for two, my partner had a Thai yellow curry and l had sea scallops. It was all absolutely delicious and portion sizes were good without being too big. We had an alcoholic drink and a fruit juice and all in it was very reasonable for the quality and ambience. I would definitely recommend it and will be going back.

Restaurant was extremely busy & there was insufficient staff to cope with the demand
The set menu was very average which at £35.95 per head was very disappointing.
We have visited the Blue Orchid many times & have enjoyed the food & the hospitality of the staff. Unfortunately the visit on this occasion didn't live up to expectations!

Having spent hundreds of pounds in this place and always been good regulars we were severely let down.
There is always the odd item missing but the food is usually ok and I never ring to complain as there’s usually plenty for all.
For the second consecutive delivery, the restaurant failed to take notice of my wife’s allergy despite me advising them and then having it repeated back over the phone they still made the same mistake.
A fortnight ago I had to throw part of the meal straight in the bin as the restaurant failed to listen to the allergy advice I provided, a real shame as this both a waste of food and money.
Unfortunately on the second occasion my wife and I both failed to notice that the allergen was in the food and we both ate it which caused my wife to have an allergic reaction!
In addition to this, they also forgot my sons main meal which was a curry. In fairness they did offer to redeliver in the curry within 15 minutes but that wasn’t honoured either and was outside of this timeframe so decided to cancel that too as both the meal and our evening was ruined.
An hour and half after ordering all I had was a load of side dishes and one main meal for a family of four on a Saturday night and £60 out of pocket! What a treat!
I called the restaurant to request a full refund for putting my family at risk due to their negligence and and ruining the meal but was told that they were only willing to replace or refund the two items that were wrong/late which is quite frankly ridiculous.
If you do suffer with allergies please be extremely careful to check your food carefully before consuming because these guys don’t check.
I will never ever order from this place again.

We are very sorry that this happened. We offered to correct it immediately. At your request we refunded you fully.
BUT you were extremely rude, very aggressive and verbally abusive leaving our female member of staff visibly upset.
Please know we will NEVER tolerate this kind of behaviour towards our hardworking staff, especially under these difficult circumstances.
Therefore you are no longer welcome to use our services.

We have recently moved to this area and the Blue Orchid was highly recommended to us and great reviews backed this up. I had a take away this evening. The salt and pepper squid was breaded rings with lots of chilli. I have never had it like this before, ever. The chilli stir fried chicken was lumps of chicken, very little else apart from again lots of chilli and no other taste. Thai food is my favorite and I have been Thailand and sampled amazing food all over the world. This meal bore no resemblance to Thai food and I wonder if the chef is Thai?
I will give it another chance as I'm sure the food cannot be so poor again.

We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your meal. If you had raised an issue with us direct we would have tried to find a way to ensure you were satisfied.
We have been operating for nearly twenty years and our valued head chef had been with us for ten of those. All our Thai kitchen staff are from Thailand and our head chef previously worked at the 5* Continent hotel, Bangkok as well as other prestigious restaurants and hotels in South Korea and Germany.
Our other customer reviews and our trip advisor certificate of excellent every year since 2012 and travellers choice awards are testiment to the quality and authenticity of our offering.

We decided to order a take away for New Year’s Eve. We placed our order quite early in the evening, but they told they were quite busy and any food collection wouldn’t be ready until 9pm. We decided to go with it. We were not disappointed!! The food was lovely and even though they were very stretched and busy, they were very professional and friendly with it. I love this little piece of Asia on our door step. Thank you guys 🙏🏼. Hope you’re all having a well deserved rest today. Happy new year!!

Booked a table at our favourite Thai restaurant as part of the Eat Put to Help Out Scheme.
Temperature taken on arrival and sanitizer provided.
Everyone was seated outside which was good from a social distancing point but had we been aware we would have taken a jacket or cover up to wear as was a chilly evening.
Ordered a set menu and as usual food was delicious. Thank you.
However, restaurant was very busy and service was disappointing - we were there over 3 hours and had to ask three times for drinks which were ordered with our meal. Waitress seemed very confused by our order and kept asking us what course we were waiting for.
Also felt that staff were not social distancing with one another or guests and although wore gloves and masks/visors, one of the waiters spent most of the time with his visor resting on his head rather than down over his face.
It is for the latter reason that I have only given 4* and not 5* and unlikely to rush back until things back to normal - if that ever happens.

Visited the Blue Orchid with close friends, for a belated birthday meal. The restaurant surroundings set the tone for an expectation of high quality authentic Thai food ( a standard difficult to find in the UK), and the meal itself did not disappoint!
Ingredients were clearly of a high quality, cooked and balanced perfectly, within fragrant, rich and tasty dishes, all presented with smart, attentive table service. I can’t fault this as a memorable dining experience and highly recommend it. Top marks all round from our party of 4.

Beautiful restaurant in a lovely location and the food was beautifully presented. The restaurant gets incredibly busy and so booking is essential. We had booked but there was a very length delay in getting seated, I don't know whether they had allowed walk-ins or whether this is the norm and they don't allow enough time for diners to eat. There was a wedding party seated outside which I can imagine was taking up a lot of their attention and time and did feel that the service was lacking somewhat in taking the orders for the food and drink with lengthy delays.

Thank you so much for making my lockdown birthday so special. From the moment I called a few weeks ago and
spoke with Joy, the experience has been perfect.
The initial discussions, placing of the order, arranging delivery, Joy confirming the delivery on the day and the actual delivery
and then the food itself. All wonderful and as we were obviously not able to eat in house this was definitely the next best thing.
We look forward to eating at the Blue Orchid again once this is all over.
The additional questions posed by Trip Advisor assume you have attended the restaurant. As this was not the case I have not answered them.

We have been a couple of times to this restaurant. Tonight we took family who hadn’t been before. It was a really disappointing experience. They had crammed so many people in and they were rushing us to finish our meal. It made us very uncomfortable. As soon as we put our cutlery down they were over trying to clear up. We had only just finished our last course and the waitress was over saying you will have to go now as we have people waiting for your table. We had only been there 1 1/4 hours. The bill was overly priced for what we had and the beef was so tough in the curry you couldn’t chew it. We defiantly won’t be going back again.

You didn’t raise any concern at the time about your beef dish, in fact you made a point of saying how wonderful the food was when the manager spoke with you personally.
We decided to serve you as priority and promptly because on this occasion you had 3 young children at the table and we always serve tables with young children quicker because we understand that longer sittings in the evening are difficult for young families.

This was our first visit to the restaurant. We were a table of two celebrating our wedding anniversary. The outside setting and atmosphere is lovely, they appeared to be up to full capacity, it was very busy with staff rushing around. The menu is extensive with a good choice and the food we chose was tasty with generous portions. We just felt they were lacking in attention to the finer details, for example on arrival they didn’t appear to have a record of our booking despite several email correspondences and an acknowledgement. They also did not acknowledge that it was our wedding anniversary despite being made aware in the email booking. There was no rose wine available by the glass, only bottles and limited white wine by the glass. There was also no non alcoholic beer on the menu. Everything was just a bit impersonal, which is the difference between a good restaurant and a fantastic restaurant. I guess they must be happy to settle for the former.

Today I celebrated my birthday with my family at the Blue Orchid restaurant. The food is of a very high standard and the staff are very welcoming & professional.
The team have gone to great lengths to make the outside dinning area fit for all weathers. It poured with rain whilst we had lunch but we were all warm & toasty due to the robust rain covers and heaters.
This restaurant provides a wonderful dining experience and we all felt very Covid safe.

In my opinion one of the most romantic venues in the area. Quality, authentic Thai food and service and the restaurant had been decorated beautifully and tastefully for Valentine’s and I was even given a red rose at the end of the meal. The lighting, furnishings and staff really set the restaurant apart and the staff went above and beyond to please. From the outside you feel as though you could be in Thailand (minus the weather). Highly recommend, especially for couples or anyone wanting to impress.
