Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program

I am starting this topic for people who have enrolled in the Marriott Vacation Club Destinations Exchange Program and have experience using it. There is plenty of negative feedback regarding the program based on the sales presentation only. Absolutely no feedback from people who have used it.

Too early to tell -- I bought in hoping to save money on the Interval International membership annual fee and exchange fee costs. I figure over time the cost of those added together should pay for the up front costs paid to Marriott. I did not buy the extra point for more vacations -- too pricey.

I think this is going to be a wait and see -- they seem to indicate they can do everything Interval can do and more. Hope so.

So you bought into the program but still deposited with interval, instead of using the points option? I own 2 weeks and was thinking about depositing a lock off week with interval and using the 2nd week as points. Before I do I wanted to know how difficult it will be to find availability with points. I was told by a marriott specialist that the only weeks available for points use will be rooms (or weeks) that have been deposited for points. For example; if you deposited your home resort week with interval it would not be available to me if I were using points. It seems that now they have less rooms available than ever. Weeks for people who use their home resort every year, weeks for Interval, weeks for points and weeks for regular non member rentals.

Interval is still among the options with this program. When you pay the fee for Marriott's program, they pay for your Interval Internal membership, and there no longer are any more fees for exchanges -- you just do it all through Marriott -- plus you still have access to all the properties on Interval, not just Marriott. This has been apparently been a tough part of the program for Marriott to get through to people. People think that they just have access to Marriott property.

Yes I understand that you have 3 options. 1.Use your week(s) at your home resort, 2.deposit your week(s) with Interval or 3.deposit your week(s) for points to be used in the exchange program. The first 2 options are the same as they have always been and I'm very familiar with. Option 3 is the option that is of interest to me. I'm looking for input from people who have used the points option. I'm curios to see if booking weeks are as simple as it looks on their calculator that is shown on the MVCI web site.

Ok, I get your question now. You are right, you can't switch between the two programs. Once you have converted to points within Marriott, you are stuck in the Marriott stock of properties for your change (plus available in your points range). So you almost have to be sure in advance that is what you want to do and have a destination in mind, otherwise I'd stick with the flexibility of Interval. The only other thing to keep in mind though you can use more than resorts, you can use their trips, hotels, and explorer packages with this plan.

Thanks for the input. The flexibility sounds awesome in theory. Being able to use points for cruises and such is enticing. It is just the fear of the unknown for me right now. What the heck it's just $700 right?

Ok -- Just got burned -- Was wrong on the Interval thing -- there is still a fee for Interval exchanges that are non- Marriott. I was sure Marriott told me it was for all exchanges, but of course, they could not make that stick with Interval. Just tried my first trade outside the system today. GRRRRR.

Ugh! Sorry to hear that. It was my understanding that they were doing this to simplify fees. Just pay one fee is what they advertise. Frustrating.

I'll be joining soon and using the points, so I'll keep you posted on how well that works for us.

I just joined this program and nothing was mentioned about exchanging with Intervals. I assumed using this program meant dropping out of II, but I could be mistaken. I"ll check with my sales guy, who has always been very straight with me. I really didn't mind if that was the case: I only used II to exchange into another Marriott property. I am concerned about availability, though. It's tough enough to book the weeks I want as it is. I'll be sure to post my experience when I use it.

Thanks for starting this discussion. I have been sitting on the paperwork for a few weeks now trying to decide what to do. Please keep updating us on your experience and if we sign up, we'll do the same.
