Europe Backpack Help

I am planning a backpacking trip throughout southern Europe starting in mid May and staying for 25 days with a little flexibility in that. Here is my basic itinerary:

Madrid, Barcelona, (4 day trip to Morocco) Rome, Athens, Greek Isles, Istanbul

Staying a few days in each location should give us around 20 days and then a few extra travel days. Do you think its a better idea to stay in one place more than a few days or is this okay? We would like to see as many places as possible. We are young and don't mind short flights to each of these places. Any help or tips would be great! Thanks!

Staying in a locale for a few days is a great way to do it, gives you time to explore and discover not simply take a few photos and leave. Of course the longer you stay, the more you come to discover the city. If you think you will be returning many times to explore more, then spend more time at fewer locations. If you think it maybe your only trip to southern Europe, then just a couple of days at all is good.

You might try posting this question on the individual forums for all the cities you listed, folks there can help you better determine how many days at their location is best or minimal.
