For long haul, I tend to get there at least three hours before. Always best to be an hour early, than one minute late.
HI,
DMK (and to a lesser extent, BKK) is overcrowded and the planned expansion isn't yet open/operational.
So, my suggestion is --- earlier ...
While I don't really like just hanging around the airport waiting and killing time, given that making the carriers check-in deadline is always your risk, I take the viewpoint that the time I arrive extra early is my "insurance" against being late and either having to rush around (bad) or being late and missing check-in and now I bear all rebooking costs (worse)
Travel Safe,
Lots of time for Air Asia, it is the most crowded at DMK.
Three hours before as the issue is under question and you do not want to miss the flight over coming an hour later
I would also say 3 hrs also for Air Asia at DMK best than any rushing
Thank you all! The flight is at 6:15 in the morning - any chance that makes a difference? I.e., will it be less crowded at that time? Trying to figure out if it is best to leave at 2 or 3 AM (will be staying about an hr. away).
Agree , had a quick look and based on 'current' schedules although the Bali ( Den Pasar DPS ) flight at 0615 is the first of their morning international departures Air Asia have 12 international departures between 0615 and 0715 so you can imagine .... a lot of passengers at that time.
Best to get there early and then relax
Edited: 6 years agoThe good news is that the roads will be empty at 2-4 am so depending on your accommodation location a taxi ride to DMK might take less than 30 minutes even if you do not pay for the tollway.
Once you have dropped off your bags and there is no rush, you can look for an inexpensive Thai breakfast at the Magic Food Point food court http://www.bangkokgoodlife.com/magic-food-point-at-don-muang-airport-bangkok/
