Passport control in LHR or LIS?

We are flying from the US (EWR) to LIS. I assume passport control/immigration/customs will be at the LIS airport. On the return we fly from LIS to LHR to SFO. Do we go through passport control at Lisbon airport or Heathrow? We only have a connecting time of 1 hour 55 minutes, assuming TAP is on time into LHR. Is that enough time? The Heathrow airport website has a connection model that says 60 minutes to connect, and it describes security checkpoint but not passport control.

Thanks.

You will go through outbound Schengen Passport Control at Lisbon. There are no Customs formalities when leaving a country. Provided the travel is on one ticket, you can stay airside at Heathrow and not have any Immigration or Customs formalities.

As Nick says you have exit formalities at LIS. Assuming your LIS-LHR-EWR itinerary is one ticket (and from your description I believe it is) you'll be fine with an ontime arrival. No passport control or Customs at Heathrow, just security clearance.

If your LHR-SFO flight is with United you'll have a same terminal T2 connection. TAP flights usually arrive at the T2A main terminal building so it's a short walk to Flight Connections. Reclear security and you're in the main departure lounge. United leaves from T2B Satellite and that's a good 10-15 minute journey by foot, escalators and travelators. But a close on 2 hour connection is IMO about ideal.

If by any chance you're on BA it's a similar setup at Heathrow T5.

sydneynick is correct. You will need to re clear security at LHR both ways.Just follow the purple flight connection signs.1hr 55 is plenty if your first flight is on time.

Thank you all for your responses. I am relieved because UA has changed our flights at least 6 times, and finally they put us on TAP, connecting through LHR to a UA flight. It seems like the EWR hub keeps changing flights that affects our flights from and to HNL. I've flown UA for years and never experienced all these changes. Mahalo!

Flight changes can happen, but it does sound as if you've been perticularly unlucky this time. You should have plenty of time to get through LHR.
