Glasgow to Brisbane with Emirates

Hi, we fly to Brisbane in June via Dubai with Emirates with 2 young children. We've been given a bassinet seat already on both flights there. Does anyone have any tips to make our trip as easy as possible?

There's a good source of information available on this subject if you use a proper PC on the right of the screen >>>>>>>>

My tuppence worth would be to have favourite toys and other things to keep them occupied.

How young are they? This is why I never select seats near the toilet, because often they have young children.

Have snacks for the kids, favourite tv shows/movies downloaded onto an ipad. Make sure you take your toothbrush in your carry-on - Emirates don't give these out in Economy anymore. How long is your stop in Dubai?

Consider breaking the journey up with a stopover in one or both directions. You can have a full stopover (leaving the airport), alternatively Emirates will sell you a through ticket with a long airside stopover (say 12 hours) intended for people breaking the journey in the Dubai airside hotel.

These tickets don't usually cost any extra, and the hotel is not too expensive if you book well in advance. Plenty of good reviews on Tripadvisor.

Are you sure about the bassinet? A 2 year old is usually too big for them. They're more intended for babies. Check what the maximum age/size is for EMirates bassinets. Can't see a 2 year old staying in one for long.

Make sure you have a change of clothing for all of you. Accidents tend to happen with young kids or one of them is aick over one of you.

Yeah he'll be 1 year and 10 months so still classed as an infant. We didn't reckon he would stay in one for long (or at all!).

We stop for 2 hours and 40 minutes. Might be crazy but we want to power through and come out the other end as quickly as possible!

I wouldn't count on getting a bassinet. Usually bassinets are allocated to the younger babies first and have a weight limit of 11 kg.

Your booking probably says something along the lines of 'bassinet requested' especially since you are not flying till next June.
