Star Alliance Airplane

I know what the Star Alliance is, the business grouping of several different airlines - but recently I saw a Star Alliance plane at an airport - what would that be?

There were no other airline logos or colors other than "Star Alliance". Do you mean SAS has some planes that say SAS and some that are just the Star Alliance name?

Each of the airlines who are members of the Star Alliance usually have at least one plane painted this way. They serve as flying billboards to advertise the route network. The airline who owns the plane does have their logo on it as well, but it is very small and usually forward toward the cockpit-would have been easy to miss.

That would be a special livery plane you saw :). Typically, it is not too easy to see the airline's logo on most of these special livery planes, but it's there (usually near the bottom of the side of the plane near the front)! All the Star Alliance airlines have at least one of these type of special livery planes, but you don't see them all that often.

Oneworld also has these types of planes too, also with a big oneworld text on the body of the plane.

My guess: think those SA labeled planes as well serve as a pool for SA affiliated members (Spanair, TAP, LH, SAS, LH..) in case there is a shortage.

The Star Alliance Logo Jets are just for advertising the alliance. It is to say "Yes, Air Canada is a part of Star." "Yes, Air NZ is a part of Star." etc..... It is nothing more than publicity for the airline alliance and to have one jet at each airline identify the airline as a part of Star.

It is not for sharing air craft. You can't just give a plane to another airline.
