British Airways Toronto - London

I'll be traveling economy later this fall to Heathrow on BA. Does anyone have experiences that might be helpful? Is the meal decent or should I plan on bringing food for the plane. Thanks for any info.

BA92 and BA98 both depart at such times that dinner will be offered not too long after take off; there will likely be a drinks run before the meal service starts. Dinner in WT and WT+ is usually a choice of two hot entrees with a small salad, sweet and mini chocolate bar on the tray as well. All drinks are complimentary; you should get a small bottle of water with the meal tray but that might have been enhanced (rolls eyes in despair) to a cuplet rather than a bottle - that's the rumour I've heard for those in WT.

After dinner the lights will be dimmed fairly soon, esp on BA98, but there may be a quick duty free trolley run before lights out. AVOD is in place on all 747s and on most 777s so you'll have a fairly nice selection of films and TV series from which to choose. Cabin crew need to boot up the system, so don't try to start using it before the seat belt signs go off; you'll have to sit through the Well Being In The Air video (rolls eyes yet again) before the AVOD kicks in.

During lights out, crew will pass through the cabin on a fairly regular basis with trays of water and juice. If you'd like a drink of something else, crew will be happy to help you, and there may even be seconds on the wee packets of salty snacks.

At about 80 minutes prior to arrival it's lights on and time for breakkie. Breakfast will likely be a Deli Box, with a cold filled croissant, cereal bar, yogourt and juice cuplet - a reduced drinks trolley service will be offered with juice, water, coffee and tea.

At the 20 minute call it will be seatbelts on and hopefully a quick on time descent to LHR. Your flight may arrive at the main terminal building, at T5B the satellite terminal, or at a remote stand meaning stairs down from the plane to the apron with bus rides to T5. The last sounds grim but it's not too bad; if your flight arrives at T5B it's a bit of a hike to the main terminal building, with a ride on the transit train just for fun.

If you need another cup of coffee or tea, there is a big Costa Coffee just outside the doors after one passes through the baggage hall and Customs; there is a M&S Simply Food at the far end of T5, near the ticket desk for the Underground and HEX tickets (but you can also buy Underground tickets downstairs at the Tube station).

So. You wil get one hot and one cold meal, decent enough for a seven hour flight but not massive.
