My new wife and I recently travelled to Europe to enjoy a stress free honeymoon ...or so we though!! A week of sightseeing in Croatia was nearly ruined after easyJet cancelled our flight to Split while we were waiting at the gate to board the flight in Geneva. We returned to the easyJet check in counter and were given no explantion why the flight was cancelled - after repeated questioning. easyJet's response was that we could take up one of 3 options: 1. that we could wait 5 days for their next available flight, 2. we could request a refund or, 3. they would fly us to another destination in Europe. Clearly none of these options were suitable as after months of planning we had booked and paid for our accomodation/car hire etc at various places in Croatia. Our honeymoon was now thrown into chaos.
We were given no support or advice from easyJet on how we could resume our travel and were basically left to sort it out ourselves. To make things worse there were no other airlines with suitable flights to Croatia from Geveva that would allow us to resume our holiday as planned.
As a last resort we were forced to drive to Milan overnight (approx 400km away) so that we could catch a flight to Dubrovnik and resume our holiday in reverse order. To rub salt into the would - the car hire cost 650 euros for the overnight journey. As you can imaging my wife was in tears at this point in time.
I would like to advise readers that using this 'low cost airline' is at your own peril as they will leave you 'high and dry'.Ultimately the flight cancellation resulted in major disruption to our travel plans and $1,000's in additional costs/lost deposits. Not an ideal way to spend your honeymoon.
