Flight Attendant just plain mean!

I fly Allegiant quite often between Tenn and fla and always been happy with the service.

However on Sunday January 23rd i met a female flight attendant that just was plain mean. leaving Florida the plane was an hour behind in loading passengers and I waited ti the end to board as entered the plane i was talking to friends who had already boarded and were a few seats behind me I was advised "sir I dont know if you have been drinking but you need to be quiet" and was escorted to the front seat. I sat down and asked my wife if I was being loud? the surrounding passengers laughed and agreed I was not any louder than anyone else. Then as the attendant was reading the announcement she again singled me out and said sir if you dont respect me you will be removed" I could not believe she meant me I was doing nothing not even talking to me wife at that time. at that point i was afraid to even speak. at that time tho the plane was heading back to the gate I looked at the other attendant thinking it was my fault with disbelief he really didnt acknowledge my glance, which I understand he wouldnt go against a co worker. anyway the plane was not able to fly because of mechanical issues. everyone was then exited from the plane. It would take 5 hours for a different plane to arrive so I chose not to fly that flight and wait till Thurs for the next departure. while waiting though and talking with four other people I knew but who did not know each other they had a story of this attendant being rude and when they did get to go on the flight and I stayed behind i talked to them later and they all mentioned how this attendant acted towards them

Welcome to Tripadvisor.

Before commenting, I'd like to hear the attendants side of the story.

But, if this is i your worst travel experience, you have had a very lucky time. I wouldn't get to excited about it.

1. Had you been drinking?

2. Some people can be jerks. Some people are flight attendents. Some are both. Thats just life.

To be fair, I can see this in two totally different lights.. I can see a situation where a mechanical issue made this a bad situation, and you were substantially "in the wrong place, at the wrong time" and the FA just took it our on you-- for lack of a better term.

IF that is the case, this is NOT an acceptable excuse to be rude, belittling or otherwise to passengers. I don't care if it's a stressful situation, there are standards of crew conduct and they apply at all times..

From that perspective, your account sure sounds as if there was some room for better performance by the crew and perhaps a better way to deliver her message.

Now, that said... I can *also* see a situation in which perhaps you were out of bounds.. perhaps drinking (as somewhat alleged) or just otherwise being loud and interfering with their duties.

Again, two different situations, two different outcomes.

I'm NOT in any way saying you were being rude, disrespectful or otherwise non-complaint.. but as always, and with no disrespect to your statement intended, we're only hearing your side of the events and not the FA's nor an impartial 3rd view point.. It's not unheard of for reports to be posted that leave out, minimize or otherwise misrepresent facts to suit their position.. by passengers as well a companies.. it cuts both ways..

Again, this isn't to say you were right or wrong.. we just don't know..

What I *do* think you should do is put your complaint, and the *facts* as you know them, to print and forward it to the airline.. Tell them how you felt and how your were treated.

I will tell you that while some people like to believe that nothing happens to these reports, I can tell you that as a management person of cabin crew myself, most airlines to take very seriously any credible report of such behavior..

What I will tell you is that people tend to feel 'fobbed' off since rarely will an airline tell you what was the end result.. They'll just say something like "we addressed it" and send you some travel credits or otherwise..

I can appreciate how it might make you feel like you were fobbed off, but I will tell you that as is common in private employer versus employee personnel matters, there is a policy of non-disclosure of disciplinary action taken against an employee to non-company personnel..

I can also say that for most airlines there is a firmly stated disciplinary tract or program that is followed and any proven violations can lead to discipline up to and including discharge.. so there are consequence for "bad behavior"..

At this point, I think your best course of action is to write them a polite, factual letter outlining your concerns and present the facts.. then let them take over and investigate..

Is this the first time in your life that you have been singled out or asked if you have been drinking?

if so then probably FA was a jerk or haveing a bad day.

If it has happened before in different circumstance's then maybe it is you

and you are unaware of your mannerism's

I'll give you even odds they're a one-post-wonder. Indeed, I'd like to hear the FA's side of the story.

God not another 'flight attendant was mean' posting. Count them they seem to be breeding faster than rabbits. Lucky we don't have a 'shop assistant was mean to me forum' it would be crazy in there....

Some poeple are just plain LOUDER in speaking than others.

Most of the time they dont know they are and to those who are not used to this manner,, or volume of speaking ,can take it as being loud and abusive.

Yes, alcohol does seem to be an accellerant to all this.

Ive seen and HEARD many people talking LOUDER than normal on many air trips because they ambient noise around them make them feel like they wont be heard in a normal speaking voice.

But who really knows when there is only one side told.

Hopefully the OP wasnt shouting across 3-4 rows/aisles of seats.

That would really annoy me too.
