klm food poisoning

why no action from KLM.? We returned from a visit to Nigeria. on Wednesday we (all 4 of us) were perfectly healthy at the beginning of the flight and DEFINITELY suffering from food poisoning by the end. Blood cultures and other samples proved conclusively that my husband; who was very ill in hospital had eaten food recently that was infected. KLM have sent us via email a reference number They assure us that it may be some weeks before they are back in touch!

So I ignore the doctors, the evidence, the fact that 4 of us had symptomsand that KLM have no way of passing information on according to Customer Care My MAIN concern is that KLM have probably done NOTHING

<<Communicate to Catering and contact passengers>>

Do you mean send the passengers a note to the effect "if you were on flight KLM007 and were ill, you may be liable for a large payout in compensation. Were you ill?"

Far more sensible to see how many contact them unprompted in order to get a less biased view.

Testing was Conclusive Toxins from Staphloccolal bacteria which could only have been ingested and produced gut reaction within a certain time scale. This was PROVEN food poisoning. I am not going to argue with specialists who diagnosed condition I am angry with KLM

"How do you gather that? As rapenburg said in an earlier post: "with time factor seems highly likely doctors say that it was in flight food."

It is more typical to take 1 to 3 days and can take as long as weeks.....that is how I gather that.

If they, for instance, all shared a pizza 48 hours before flying it could easily have been the pizza not the KLM food.

The OP stated they were perfectly healthy at the begining of the flight. Unless thay had blood and culture tests done before they flew they would not have known for sure the flight food was the source. It would be more correct to say they were symptom free. The bugs that made them sick could very well have been there just not in large enough numbers to cause problems.

I am not in any way saying KLM is innocent but I am saying at this point it is impossible to say they are guilty.

You're referring to a quote that makes a *general* claim about infections but the OP knows what the specific kind of infection it was and was told the timeline for that particular infection fits the time-line. I'm assuming of course that the doctors who did the test know what they're talking about and that the OP is relaying their findings correctly.

You're right though that it will be difficult to prove with certainty that the KLM food is the culprit, though if the time-line fits and if their travel companions in Nigeria were not infected, there's at least some reason to think it's the case. But as I said, nothing the OP can do before KLM gets back to her.

The OP has only had confirmation from a doctor that his party had food poisoning. The doctor has not confirmed where that food poisoning was contracted.

At the moment, it seems the OP is certain that it was from the KLM flight they contracted food poisoning, yet there is no evidence to either prove or disprove it until KLM have had chance to complete their investigation - which the OP has already mentioneed it will take a few weeks.

I'd like to know when you contacted KLM and how many days you have given them before getting angry? Its possible they are looking to see if anyone else got sick. What would be a satisfactory response from KLM and in what time period? If you can prove it was KLM I would expect they should pay any medical costs you incurred as a result of your illness.

To give some additional info: there were 5 people travelling together on the trip, who all ate identical food on the trip. One member of the party took a separate flight to London and didn't eat on the plane. She is fine. Three of the party ate before boarding the flight ( one did not) all four members were in good health When boarding the plane. By the end of the flight all four members of the party (who had eaten the same beef meal) had (among other things) diahorrea, colic and were constantly visiting the toilet. Within hours of this one member of the party was urgently admitted to hospital, and was only released yesterday. The diagnosis pretty much confirms that there is a very strong possibility that it was this food that caused the problem.

You ask what we want from KLM? To urgently investigate this to ensure that this doesn't happen to anyone else again. The few responses we have had suggest that they are not taking this issue seriously.
