Do you take your wrist watch off when going through security

I do and I wonder if it is necessary. I put it in my carry on. The same with my belt 'cause of the belt buckle.

I do not want to cause problems

The watch has never caused a problem. The belt sometimes does but not always. Some security will ask me to remove the belt while others won't.

Ditto (to the OP). I don't want to wear anything that would risk setting off the metal detector and subject me to a TSA fondle.

I've got chunky metal watches and only on very few occasions has even my chunkiest set off the metal detector. I put it down to the "random" ping more than the watch...

My watch has never triggered the metal detector, but I was told to remove it, when I went through the whole body scanner.

I put watch, keys, coins & pen together into a quart freezer bag. It's much easier to handle if it's all together.

^^^^ Me too, except I use a larger bag, and that goes into my carry on. And I do that, make sure my laptop and liquids bag are ready accessible, and untie my shoelaces, well before I get to security. No fumbling around and holding up pax behind me.

It really depends on the type of scanners they use, some are more sensitive than others, I have a heavy Kinetic watch, at Heathrow and in Europe I typically have no problems, but in Dubai & Bangkok I have to remove my watch.

I can only surmise that the scanning equipment are set to different levels or different airports are looking for different things during the screening process.

My watch always sets off metal detectors so I take it off to avoid being searched by those airport rent-a-cops.
