Airline booked with versus operated by

I booked a flight from Calgary to London online through one of the travel sites that lists all the flights/airlines and choose Lufthansa as it was the cheapest. However the flight is described as being operated by Air Canada, and on the Lufthansa web site when I enter the booking number the flight information shows the airline for the flight as being Air Canada. I'm confused by who the flight is therefore really with.

- If I want to check something regarding the fight do I contact Lufthansa or Air Canada?

- The different companies have different restrictions on the amount of free/paid luggage. Which one would apply, ALs or AC's?

- Most importantly: as the flight is operated by Air Canada does that mean it won't be affected by the Lufthansa strikes?

Thanks

If it says "Operated by" Air Canda, you are really flying on AC, and you just purchased the ticket through LH. All Air Canada policies will apply, as that's the airline you are on.

If you don't already have it, get your Air Canada confirmation number, and you can look up your flight on AC's webpage.

I always buy my AC tickets through Lufthansa. They quote cheaper prices for some reason. And yes, you will fly on an AC aircraft and won't have to worry about LH's little contretemps.

AC is your port of call for managing your booking, selecting seats etc.

Thanks to both of you.

I have a Lufthanser booking reference, how do I get one for Air Canada?

If I type in the flight number in google, it comes out as being Lufthansa and not Air Canada.

flightstats.com/go/…

How come its LH5533 and not AC5533?

Will there be a corresponding AC flight number for the same flight?

LH doesn't fly to Calgary. It will definitely be AC. Generally speaking, when you see a 4 number flight number on long haul, that indicates it's a codeshare and another airline is actually operating the flight.

You need to call AC to get their booking reference.
