Has anyone got anywhere with American Airlines claim for Ash Cloud delay whilst kept in Miami for 6 days waiting for flight back to UK.
I think you'll need to provide more detail.
American airlines (small "a") don't, AFAIK, generally give out compensation for delays beyond their control.
Were you flying to the EU? That might make a difference, but, again, some airlines ignore the rules.
After 2 years, I think AA would have done something by now if they were going to respond.....
As far as I know they don't actually have to pay you anything. If you'd been on an EU carrier flying back to the UK it would have been covered under EU261 but as it was an American carrier, it isn't.
LeylandSunaddict has summed up the situation very well. A US carrier is not bound by the EU Regulation when flying to the EU (only when flying from the EU) so you will not recover any right to care expenses (hotels, meals etc) from AA.
Did you have a travel insurance policy from the UK?
And have a read of this:
Why did American Airlines cause that volcano to erupt? Rich .
It was a proactive job action, looking ahead to their bankruptcy filing, no doubt.
American didn't "keep" you in Miami. The closure of the airspace did. Not an EU airline. What did your travel insurance do?
