hasn't been liquid restrictions rules for internal australian flights for years.

Yep, it's not new, and I seem to think it was once mentioned that it would come into force in 2013 but it obviously isn't. Maybe one day...........

A 500ml water bottle clearly will not blow up any airplane.

I guess all airport water vendor around the world will send Xmas gift to the British police for the fantastic idea of banning water bottle.
