http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/ You may or may not need a visa for transit in the UK. Your status as a police officer of Bangladesh and Commander in Sudan aren't really germane to the question of whether you need a Direct Airside Transit Visa.

If something happens to delay your flight such that you miss your connection, you will have a nice opportunity to get to know the air terminal. But, Gulf Air does not fly to the US so now the question is, how are you flying to the US from London and is this all one one ticket, or did somebody combine multiple tickets on non-conformable airlines?

If you want to be sure, call the airline.

According to the UKBA site linked to by TP, YES you do need a visa to transit in London, even air side.

The info on how to apply for the visa is given on the UKBA website.

If you'd rather avoid the visa procedure you'd need to fly to the US avoiding the UK. I don't know what transit issues you'd face in the Middle East but you could look at Emirates, Etihad or Qatar, all of whom would get you to the US avoiding the UK (and Europe).
