Any advice would be appreciated on this one.
Wife and I are flying back to UK for Xmas. We're booked on KLM (return leg) from Singapore - London via Amsterdam.
We've got a 7 hour stop over in AMS before flying to LHR. Our final destination is Belfast so we've got a further wait in LHR before our flight.
I found an Easyjet flight from AMS to Belfast direct so that would mean we arrive in Belfast about 7 hours ahead of our original route. Much easier as my wife is now pregnant and could do without faffing about at Heathrow.
I just called KLM to see if we could just cancel the AMS - LHR leg of the journey so we can make our own arrangements from AMS to Belfast direct. I was told that the ticket is non-changable or cancellable and when we check in at Singapore our bags will be sent straight through to LHR regardless.
I find this insane as we've already paid the money for the seat, I'm not asking for a refund and I'm actually advising them we won't be on the AMS-LHR flight!!
Has anybody had any experience with asking at check in to just get the boarding pass until AMS and only getting luggage tagged as such?
I could make the excuse that because we've got a long stop over we want to leave the airport with our luggage and go to a hotel for a few hours prior to the AMS - LHR leg.
