Flying from Detroit to Ireland with a plane change in Paris (also stop in Paris on return trip.) Will we have to go through customs or immigration in Paris? How long of a layover do you suggest? Will the bags be automatically sent to our final destination? Thanks.

You don't have to clear customs in Paris and most likely you don't have to clear Immigration. I don't know the airport, though, in some cases where you'd have to change terminals etc. you might have to clear immigration, but usually you don't.

Customs will be cleared at your final destination in the EU.

If you are flying on one ticket then your bags will be checked through, the airline will give the connection time ,you might be able to change it by clicking the view all flights button. I would go for about 2 hours if available. You should be able to connect without going through customs ect. but there will be security.

If you are planning on seperate tickets then you will need a lot longer and have to go through immigration, collect luggage and check in/drop bags again. how long depends who you are flying with

As Ireland is outside Schengen you don't pass through immigration checks until Dublin. Luggage, unlike in 3rd World countries is automatically sent through and you do not collect it
