Manchester airport to introduce passenger escort service.

This is in todays Daily Mail. Good idea to know if you need it is available, apparently the charge can cover up to 4 people.

Love the sensationalising of the story by the Mail!

I think that quite a few people will welcome this service in the target groups they mention.

I understood that airlines/airports provided free assistance for those who needed it and whilst I note that those in wheelchairs or with disabilities will still receive free assistance this does not seem to apply to the elderly or those who may not be familiar with flying. Could be the start of another type of charge facing flyers.

It is only another charge facing flyers if you chose to use it. Personally I think it is a good idea, my Grandchildren will probably use it, if only to ensure they get to the right gate in time.

Must be the way my brain thinks, I thought the title of this thread it was going to be a very different kind of escort service!

I thought it was all part of the service to help customers who aren't used to airports get to their gate and quite honestly I also think it's just another way to charge people for a service that should be expected.

Personally I don't see why people think airports should provide all these services to a minority for free.

I agree if you are disabled and physically unable to make your way to the gate then assistance should be free but if it is a confidence issue and you just want some extra help then this something that should be paid for.

A lot people think airports are services, they are businesses answerable to share holders. If charging for services like this means they don't have to increase prices to airlines, which in turn keeps ticket costs down, I am in favour.

Says it includes fast track through immigration. Never flown internationally into MAN but at some airports spending £40 to avoid waiting in a queue for that is money well spent.
