cheapest way to book a multiple city domestic flight

What is the best way to book a ticket from Minneapolis to San Fransisco, then San Fran to San Diego, and then from San Diego back to Minneapolis? The entire trip will be 7-10 days long. Is is best to do individual one way tickets or?

In my experience there is no single best way - you could book a series on one way tickets with the likes of South West avoiding checked baggage fees.

Alternatively you could book an open jaw (Minn to SF, San Diego to Minn) with a one way from SF to San Diego or a single multi city ticket covering all the flights.

It all comes down to researching your airline options and deciding what works best for you - check matrix to see options but also check South West who don't appear on matrix.

There is no best way. You should check both a single multi city ticket and one ways using different airlines. No way to know which is cheapest without checking
