Normally flights are bookable from about 11 months out, have a look on their website and see how far you can book (and don't forget that if you are coming back :-) then you need to cater for that also).
You should also be aware that flights are usually most expensive when first released as the airlines reckon that either you are desperate to book particular dates or don't care about prices or aren't aware that they have sales from time to time.
I wouldn't be booking until the next set of sales, likely to be sometime this side of Xmas but if not, just after, its not as if September is a peak time.
Earliest possible is 364 days before the date you want, that's how far out airline booking systems go. Quite often it will be more like 11 months before the date you want.
Don't assume that there will be no changes if you book so far in advance, or that airlines/travel agents will tell you if there are. They may do, they may not do, but in any case check periodically that times on your booking have not been changed.
The 364 days will be from the date of your return flight. As others have said, far to early to be booking for next September unless you have money to burn.
Wait for the Virgin sale and book around Jan/Feb at the earliest.
The earliest possible on Virgin Atlantic is 11 months, not 364 days.
Thanks very much for advice. There will be 8 of us flying PE, so should we still be fine hanging on until first Virgin sale. Also ofcourse their wedding date can't be fixed until flights booked and time of work aswell
Have always been a huge fan of TA but only discovered the Air Travel Forum a few weeks ago, very impressed
Definitely 11 months not 364 days. If you want to fly on 10th Sept 2014 for example, you will probably be able to see flights around the 10th/11th this year but you will need to wait until 11 months from your return date to be able to book the tickets.
