Air Asia

Hello again

Has anyone flown Air Asia to Penang , I'm from Melbourne

Seems so much cheaper compared with Malaysia airlines, offering a $780 return compared to $1300 Malaysian

Have never flown with them before so wanting some feedback

Thankyou

Hi

You will have to change planes in Kuala Lumpur - which has added issues - there is no direct flight.

You will have to pay extra for more than 15kg luggage, food, drink and entertainment.

They are a point to point budget carrier so you to accept that.

One of the reasons they could not compete with the UK market was the add ons that made them the same cost as the full cost carriers.

Otherwise a good airline to fly with.

Want to know more about airlines

Why not refer your post to the Air Travel forum

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g1-i10702-Air_Tr…

also the Skytrax Airline rating site has information and reviews

http://www.airlinequality.com/index.htm

and seatguru (part of TA) has lots of information and also reviews

http://www.seatguru.com/

and seatplans, again with lots of information and reviews

http://www.seatplans.com/

http://www.airtimetable.com/seatmaps.htm

and finally the flight statistic site about airline performance

Thanks Travelling Mitch

Don't you have to change planes in KL whatever airline you choose?

The price with Air Asia that I found included the flight to Penang from KL

I realise you get what you pay for and Thanks for all the sites, I will check them out

Answered on Air Travel as well....but your post is slightly different

Sounds like you have booked a fly-thru so check in Melbourne arrive KL change planes, domestic to Penang, luggage will meet you there.

As I said on the other post know what your paying for and there will be no surprises, thats why Air Asia is a Low Cost Carrier as opposed to a full service airline such as Malaysia Airlines. At times you can get the same if not cheaper for flights on Malaysia or other full cost carriers.

Used them many times they are fine, never lost luggage or had major delays and got there safe and sound.

I have flown Air Asia many times and have found them to be pretty good. You can pay the 15kg or 20 kg for luggage and from Melbourne there is only a 3 hour stop over. Luggage will go straight through. I have also flown to Penang on Malaysian Airlines which were also good but as you mentioned there is a big price difference. I always look to save on the airfares, and the money saved can sometimes pay for a weeks accommodation.

Have a great holiday.
