Thomson hand luggage dimensions , a question

I read the dimensions should not exceed 55 x 40 x 20

I have seen a bag I love which is 50 x 30 x 24 .... So the overall size is smaller , but obviously 24 is larger than 20 ... Would you risk it ? It's a squashy bag and the overall combined measurement is smaller .

The combined measurements don't matter. It's got to fit in the measuring gauge if asked. If its squashy, and not full, it may be ok. Personally I would buy a bag the right size. They have rules for a reason.

As already said, the bag exceeds the maximum dimensions.

OK, it might be smaller on the other 2 dimensions but it's still too big on the depth.

Surely it's silly to buy a bag that you know is too big?

You may get away with it on many flights but do you want to stand at check-in or at the boarding gate wondering if they're going to insist your bag goes into the hold - at a charge to you?

The only way to be sure you don't have a problem is to use a bag within all dimensions and stick within the weight limit.

The biggest problem will be it's total weight. 5Kg on Thomson, 10Kg on Ryanair and whatever you can lift on Easyjet! Your better off buying a very lightweight bag to make the most of the allowance. My wife has a large handbag with a separate zip compartment on the bottom.
