connecting in Frankfurt on different airlines

Flying from LHR to FRA on Lufthansa and connecting onwards from FRA to HKG on Cathay Pacific. Is 2 hours sufficient? Have bag to check-in.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are your flights on one through ticket, or two separate tickets?

If one ticket, then two hours should be fine, and if you missed the connection then Lufty and Cathay Pacific (CX) will look after you.

However, if these flights are on separate tickets, I'd say it's very risky, as you'll be carrying all the risk of failing to make the onward flight on CX. If you fail to make check in, bag drop, or boarding for any reason (including a delayed inbound flight from LHR) then your CX ticket is liable to be canceled as a no show and you'd have to buy a new one at the walk up fare (which may make your eyes water). You bags may not be through checked, meaning that you may have to clear immigration and customs at FRA to collect your bags from the carousel, and then proceed to check it in with CX. With separate tickets I would allow much more contingency (additional backup flights) up to and possibly including flying in the day/evening before.

As USBT said,if these are separate tickets,2 hours is nowhere near enough. On separate tickets I allow 12 hours minimum for safety.

If this is all 1 ticket, then you should be ok.

If you are on one ticket then follow the signs for "Flight Connections" rather than following the herd through immigration

Although LH has no legal obligation, they will check you bags through to HKG when on separate tickets.

With that 2 hours is plenty of time for the transit. Yes, if you are delayed it is your own risk.

But you will most likely know in LHR if you are substantially delayed. As long as you have a ticket that can be rebooked, you still can contact Cathy at LHR and change your flight. That would probably cost you Euro 100 to 150 rebooking fee and avoid a no-show.

"Although LH has no legal obligation, they will check you bags through to HKG when on separate tickets."

As stated, they have NO legal obligation. There is no guarantee that they will actually check your bags through to the final destination. If you are on separate tickets, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
